How does older version of magazines from the newsstand app look like on the retina screen? Does it scale well?

NY Daily News

I still prefer reading an actual newspaper or paper magazine than reading it on any device. Something about being able to roll it up and swat flies or pick up dead birds with it that makes it well worthwhile.

I tried doing that with the Daily New on the iPad and the results weren't quite as good.

Lol. Yeah, I imagine that didn't work as well :)

For those of you who subscribe to National Geographic, does it actually take advantage of the fact the it's virtual? Like videos and interactivity? Or is it just like reading a book on iBooks?

I like that you can see the Top Free/Top Grossing lists for Newsstand categories (like Science, Automobile, etc) from iTunes on the desktop. It makes finding good magazines with smaller distributions much easier.

I wish you could see those top lists from your device too. So far it looks like they only show What's Hot and New/Noteworthy lists when viewed from the iPad, but I don't find those as useful.

Maybe iOS 6 will have some upgrades to help with finding good magazines from the device.

Getting my new iPad tomorrow, can't wait! One of the main reasons is magazines. I've always bought mags, so I can't wait to have a look at how these iPad editions stack up.

I'm looking to get Edge, maybe Total Film, and a newspaper - not sure which yet.

I'm hoping I'm going to start ditching paper magazines in favour of iPad editions!

None, zip, zero, nothing. I've already given Apple way too much via iTunes to give the even more. As long as there's so much free content on the web, I'm not about to pay for more.

Besides, for me it's more about principle.

I'd be lying if I didn't admit I'll be giving far more to Apple with my multiple computer purchases throughout each year :)

I feel much better with spanking new maxed out MBP's & MBA's. Besides if I let up on new hardware purchases, the FedEx guy will think I've become very sick. Ha...ha...ha...

National Geographic on the iPad is absolutely beautiful. They have made very good use of the the multi media capabilities. There are videos, animations, interactive graphics and audios to go with the articles.

If you are a print subscriber, you get it on the iPad for free. I think the only way to get the iPad version is to subscribe to the print magazine.

One of the reasons I got an iPad to begin with was to replace my paper books, magazines, and newspapers with 1 device. I have been finding it has done exactly that.

I had used Zinio mostly until magazines have started finally developing their own apps. I now subscribe or download periodically:

NY Post-They've gone retina and have an incredible photo slideshow section
The Daily
iPhone Life
Macworld
MacLife
Distro
Wired
Bloomberg Businessweek
WatchTime
The Watch

i got popsci a while back, but so far everything ive seen is available on the internet for free?

what are the advantages of subscribing to them. Just more unified etc? Id rather just go to the popsci website and read the same articles then continue paying them a fee.

How is the NY Post?? I just cant bring myself the justify it for $99/year when its free online.. I'd pay something for it, but not that much...

I have:
Distro
Smart Computing
MacLife
Popular Photography
Shutterbug
The Sporting News
Sports Illustrated (although my susbscription is up, debating whether to renew)

It's a great app, I subscribe monthly, to me it is worth it, it's very easy to navigate, they add videos and photos within the articles, they are utilizing the iPad the way it was meant for news.
