What, mainly, do you use your iPad for?

I'm looking to get an iPad, but first would like to know what sort of place it would take in my home. Should I expect it to replace my MBP for general surfing/ Youtube? Do you find yourself using it more/less than expected?

Mainly web browsing, with a bit of Twitter, games and reading.

I use it a lot more than I had expected, because it's so quick to just pick up and use with the instant wake from sleep.

I watch movies when I am traveling on long trips.

This. Also my MBP feels like a hot, heavy and never-charged artifact from the past compared to my iPad.

There's no "mainly" to speak of. In a typical week I use it:

    • On my daily train commute - reading books, surfing the web, checking emails, playing a game or two, music - depends on my mood.
    • At work - taking notes at meetings; referring to key documents which are stored as pdfs in my iBooks library.
    • At home - surfing, checking emails, occasional game - mostly in bed.
    • Traveling - email, surfing, movies, music, reading.

Mainly reading. But it has picked up a lot of other uses in my life. Notes are becoming a close second.

Mainly for the web, notes, reading, games, trying out apps and email. Watched a few videos on netflix as well.

I do have music on there too, but when the new Touch is released, I'll just keep my music on that to open up more space.

Mostly web browsing, email, Youtube, some games and other apps. Movies and music are great while traveling. I've played around a fair bit on the maps app (which is amazing with multitouch on a larger screen). I was originally worried that this would just be a novelty that would be used several times and then sit around unused. The exact opposite happened, where since I got an iPad I've hardly touched my laptop. It's just much faster (no startup time), and much more intuitive (zooming through websites with your fingers) than a laptop. I still use my desktop for bigger apps and word processing though. Plus, if you get 3G, while traveling iPad is incredibly useful, especially with maps and GPS. It's great driving down the highway with Internet access, or with maps you can find restaurants, hotels, or attractions, reviews, and other info wherever you are. Overall, it is a lot more useful than I thought it would be originally.

I use it for all the things it is designed pretty evenly. I surf the web, email, and watch video content pretty much equally. I guess video content is more though. Netflix on that thing is so convenient.

I forgot to mention I use it for work too. It's so light and quick to turn on that my MacBook stays in the office. Email, note taking in meetings, mind mapping and task management.

I use it for EVERYTHING that doesn't involve heavy text input or flash, for those I use my macbook air. It's amazing to me just how little I use my laptop or desktop anymore.

About 2.5 months ago, my PC blue-screened and hasn't worked since. I think my power supply might have died, or my mother board failed, or something...

Anyway, the point is, I haven't even bothered to find out what's wrong with it, or considered replacing it because my iPad does everything I needed my computer to do.

The only thing I miss is hulu, but with the fall season over, I'm not really missing anything.

My iPad replaced my laptop as a daily mobile computing device. Its way lighter and far more mobile when on the bus/train/plane. Also, I'm never hunting for a power outlet which is a massive plus. The 3G makes sure you always get your email and have access to your favorite web sites as well. There are specific instances when I'll need my laptop but I'm finding more and more that I can do those tasks at home. I was out of town for more than a week recently and only used my iPad to do all my computing.

This scenario won't apply to everyone obviously but it fit my life perfectly.

Most of my email triage, almost all my web browsing, tv (recorded via eyetv), books/articles, notes, task management, twitter, IM, games.

I still use my MBP in the office, but it never leaves my desk now. At home I spend significantly less time in front of the iMac, and that is usually spent organizing content for the iPad.

At home, for general web browsing and checking email, I like the iPad better than my MacBook Pro. When I need to do something that involves more serious typing I go to the MacBook. I have a few unread paper books at home, so have not switched to reading from it at home, but I might.

On the road I also use it to read books, play games, play movies, etc. This is great since I need to take my old, cheap, work PC for business reasons.

    Mostly I use it at night...mostly :)

Mainly used for web browsing but nice to check email with it. Hardly use my iMac except for heavy typing or apps I can't use on the iPad.

Well, mostly web surfing. I've read a few books, played some games. It's does everything I need a computer to do on most days.
The only thing I really use my MacBook for anymore is just media management, and audio production.

I still need my iMac for photo processing and storing media.

I reckon I spend 70% of my time on the iPad and 30% on the iMac.

I got very bored of my iPad, so I sold it at a price I am ashamed for saying on craigslist. I used it for mostly web browsing, looking at pictures and videos, but mostly for Netflix. It was a nice device, but too many limitations for me.

I was using the iPad for email and web browsing until I got my iPhone 4. I still use the iPad for web browsing, as the iPhone 4 screen is kinda small, even with the better resolution. For email, I use iPhone 4 more, and it's just as quick as my iPad. My 3GS was a little slower on email, so I went with iPad. For games, I love the iPad, the bigger screen lets you see all the details in the graphics.

One game that is really good on the iPad is Flight Control, I play with my daughter on the same screen landing airplanes, it's awesome to play in co-op mode.

Love my ipad, rarely use my iphone 4g, have it setup with mail and calender from work, lots pdf's loaded from work, ton of documents from work, use it for meetings, and a ton of movies and video's.

Even using the 4g iphone is a step down compared to my 3g ipad

    Browsing

Mainly browsing the web, Facebook, Twitter. But what I most enjoy is to watch out for new apps, games and fun stuff that come out every day at great price or even free.

The iPad is what you want it to be, there are so many things that can be done.
