I used my iPhone to let it setup Wi-Fi and iCloud automatically. I'm not sure if anything else was setup as a result.

I used the setup from iPhone method? It only appears as though it used iCloud and wifi password stuff to set it up. No documents or apps were carried over, so curious what benefits of setting up as new?

I set it up using migration assistant and my most recent Time Machine back up from my MacBook Pro. Worked seamlessly. I'd spent the past week cleaning my drive and got my MBP down from over 700Gb used to under 250Gb by pruning, moving some things into the cloud, and setting my photos to be stored in icloud for the time being.
