Is there a way to figure out what model/year power mac g5 I have using the serial number?
 
Nice thank you so much. So now is my power mac g5 june 2004 a 1st gen or 2nd gen?
 
On the back of PowerMac near the ports there is a tag with model number.

everymac.com has information all Macs you can try to match up.
