Consumer Reports June 2003 "Deciding on a Display" Recommend buying a monitor made by the manufacture of the CPU. "If display quality is important, Mac users can't do better than the 17" Studio Display $700 for LCD. The Apple LCD has excellent quality. Apple's 17" LCD overall scrore excellent, the only one. The rest very good, except HP with Good. Apple was the only one to get excellent for the display, with a wide viewing angle. Negatives harder to tilt and control buttons harder to use. No detachable video cable. Without Apple Care, warranty 90 days parts and one year labor. Ease of use very good, but compared favorable. :)

apple monitors are WAAAAAAAAY too expensive, but I would LOVE to have one.

But I am getting a 18.1" for half the price of an apple 17". I am happy about that ;).

All that really counts is that your happy. Though for some glutinous reason I just have to point out that life isn't always about getting things at half price.

Guess what I am typing on?!?! Well, a keyboard of course... but guess what I am looking at! A gateway 18.1" LCD. It is VERY nice. I love the desk space, and everything. No dissapointments so far. I've only been using it for 10 minutes or so. It is big! I love it. A lot better than my old 17" CRT. :D

I was just reading some reviews of 17" LCDs and also happen to catch a program on TV. Looks like the Sharp units are the top rated ones in this size segment and are also the cheapest. For once the consumer wins.

Glad to hear you've received your 18" in good order and you enjoy it. That's what matters.
