You know, selling it so you'll have enough money for the 4g... What month would be smart to do that? I want to have my iPhone as long as possible w/o risking the announcement of the 4g making the value go down. Thanks for your help!

The value will go down when it's announced dude.

Not really......the value for an iPhone 3G is very high since it can be easily jail broken compared to the 3GS. And the 3GS is going to be the most recent iPhone that can be put on a different carrier due to the rumored microSIM.

So each iPhone has an edge to the one after it.

EDIT: oh, and if the value were to go down it would be during any time after WWDC/Next Gen. announcement...

Ok thanks :)

i know a guy so far for every iphone ive had he got me at least 200$

I saw some on Craigslist for about $400, exact same model as mine!

I've been keeping an upgrade option open just for the release.

Then I'll sell the 3GS.

I'll own the 4G on launch day. Once I'm happily up & running and wipe the old phone I'll put it on Craigs List and that day I'll sell it for more than I paid for the new model. This is the annual process, why would it be any different this year?

The day the 4g comes out.

I have enough saved for the new one now. Just going to pay myself back when/if I sell my 3gs

the 3GS value may also spike when the new phone is announced if the new phone is more expensive, and/or if the carrier subsidy is lower.

I'm new to AT&T... got my 3gs back in November, does AT&T offer the subsidized discount on contract renewals like Verizon does at the end of the original 2-year agreement? I'm thinking I could hang onto my 3gs until Fall of 2011 and skip this version for next 2011 revision. As much as I want the new one, It'd only be the front facing camera that would truly make it worthy for me now. But the upgrade price is pretty steep for just a front camera.

Not selling. Going to keep it and buy the 4g. Would like a backup and might give it to a family member too.

i'm gonna hold on to it until i have 4.0 and it can be jailbroken and unlocked.

If OS 4 is easily jailbroken and unlocked then your current phone is worth even less but you won't be without a iphone for 2 months

True, though I believe it will take the devs a bit more time for an unlock on the 4th gen iPhone. Just as there is no unlock for late model 3GS, at least the last time I checked.

OS4.0 will be jailbroken the day after it's released, an unlock will be a bit more time. This will increase the value of any unlockable(sp?) iPhone.

just like last year they already have a unlock. they just waiting to use it.

Let me tell you something, before you sell it, JAILBREAK IT, the value will go much higher trust me, if you dont know how, there is prolly million youtube videos on how to do it, than put it on ebay early June, around June 2 - 15th, and you'll get at least $350-$550, depends how many GB it is, also how clean it is...so yeahh good luck.

Two weeks before it goes on sale. If i'm impressed with iPhone 4. Now that the 3GS is the only one that can do multi-tasking plus the fact that mine is legally unlocked means the value should remain mostly intact
