I would say right around the WWDC. A lot of people don't know about the WWDC, or keep up with apple announcements. I noticed people go by the carriers announcement and word of mouth.

Ill sell mine as soon as there's a jailbreak for the next iPhone depending on what the final production unit is like. Otherwise, I'm fine with my 3gs. Really, the big thing that would make me upgrade is a higher res screen, and better camera.

Just sold my iPhone 3GS for $450.

16GB, black, locked, not jailbroken, 3.1.3 firmware, pristine condition.

Put mine on eBay just for laughs for $699 BIN (Blk,32gig JB/UNL). It sold in 2 days. Of course between eBay fees, PayPal fees and shipping that knocked it down about $65 ... but still, someone paid $700 .... mind boggling.

just like last year they already have a unlock. they just waiting to use it.

They had an unlock for the 3G, because they had access to the hardware, the 3GS they didn't know until it was released. They still have yet to release an unlock for the new baseband 3GS. I know they have one now, but that wasn't a week later.

If Apple doesn't change the hardware much on the 4th gen model, in relation to how they jailbreak and unlock, then it's possible they'll have a jailbreak and unlock right away.

It is very possible that the hardware on the 4th gen will make it harder for the devs to jailbreak and especially unlock, reference back to the updated 3GS.

My 3G went for $350 on eBay about a month ago and it was jailbroken, unlocked, and had tethering enabled. I've seen the same model go for over $400 so it's a crapshoot. I picked up my 32GB 3GS, 3.1.2, old bootrom for $515 on eBay which was a steal considering most are going for $650 plus.

I am eligible to upgrade to the next-gen iPhone in October for the subsidized cost so I may wait until then. I think the 3G's and 3GS' will hold their values even after the 4th gen is released because of those wanting unlocked/Jailbroken iPhones. Who knows what kind of security is going to be built into the 4th gen making it tougher to jailbreak/unlock even though 4.0 betas have been jailbroken on older iPhones.

The specs will need to knock my socks off in order for me to upgrade. I need to be jailbroken and have tethering so I will probably wait until that happens on the 4th gen without any problems. I'm really not that excited for iPhone OS 4.0 as I think Apple could have done much better than they did. I think there will be a lot of geeks staying with 3.1.x for quite a while after 4.0 is out.

Not selling. Going to keep it and buy the 4g. Would like a backup and might give it to a family member too.

If OS 4 is easily jailbroken and unlocked then your current phone is worth even less but you won't be without a iphone for 2 months

OS4.0 will be jailbroken the day after it's released, an unlock will be a bit more time. This will increase the value of any unlockable(sp?) iPhone.

exactly my thoughts. i'm buying the 4G whenever it comes out but i'll be waiting for the unlock to sell my 3GS, since i updated to 3.1.3

I have a 3G at the moment, and I am out of contract tomorrow. I have already secured £100 for it from a friends girlfriend!

I will probably take an early upgrade as soon as the iPhone 4 is jailbroken. I hope to be able to sell my 32 GB 3GS with iBoot 359.3 and 3.0-3.1.3 SHSH on file for enough to cover the early upgrade price of a 32 GB iPhone 4.

I don't think I'll mind having my 3G as a back up. In case I go idiot mode and break the 4G.

Just shipping mine today for £495. 32GB black model unlocked. That money will come in handy for the new one when its released as i plan to get the one with highest capacity.

I'm going to wait a year and skip this model - my teenage kid will get my 3GS as a hand-me-down.

I'm getting the 4g the day it comes out. I have a feeling I wont be able to sell my iphone 1g. I think that will be retired to car mp3 player :)

The iPhone 4G will not drive down the used market price of any existing iPhone.

People who buy used phones do so because they don't want to be restricted to a 2 year AT&T plan, and all the 4G models will have such restriction for at least for the first few months they are out.

Everyone now knows 90% of what the 4G looks like and what the 4G will do, and everyone is pretty certain it's going to come out in early June, and the eBay pricing on all the 3G's and 3GS's has remained constant.
