This is an offshoot from another thread that got me thinking.....what new feature is probably coming in the next few years that would make you upgrade your current phone? For example, I went from an iP5 to an iP6 to get Apple Pay, Touch ID, and better video camera specs.

Whatcha got?

I'm anticipating split view from the iPad to arrive on the iPhone. I'm also anticipating a full wallet app including my driver's license completely removing my need for a wallet.

Thanks for the input, although those sound more like software enhancements that won't require upgrading your current phone. I was looking for speculation about what new "features" might require you to upgrade to enjoy.

Unless a police officer stops you and will need to produce your drivers lic, not an app. If that is what you suggested. Some also require the Social Security card not an app, and so on.....

Not until legalization of digital ID and that won't happen anytime soon.

And not until Apple implement Apple Pay work with strip card reader, much like Samsung Pay. Works everywhere.

I'd like Touch ID to be integrated into the screen so the screen can be bigger in the same amount of space. In the same vein, I'd like the bezels all around to be smaller.

I don't know about your country, but the cops in mine (Australia), they take your licence and then sit in their car for 5-10min doing God knows what... Do you really want some dick head cop snooping through your phone for 10min.

Also what if a cop drops your phone while they are holding it?

I've heard Australia wants to introduce a licence app, but these two issues plus more need to be overcome first.

Here in the US they take it and swipe it through what looks like an old credit card reader. It then prints out a ticket from their hip mounted printer. Some of them have car printers instead but still a credit card swipe. But I always got my license back right away. They seem to hang on to my car registration more than anything. The newer license readers scan the barcode instead of reading the magnetic stripe.

Stores use the magnetic stripe on your license to see if you're eligible for tobacco and alcohol. Newer stores use the scanner.

Both situations they can just scan a QR code on my phone If my state would ever release an App. I heard Iowa may beat everyone to that though. If I can trust my financial information on my phone, I will certainly trust a license.

Usually just the numbers will suffice. I have never had anyone ask for the physical card. In fact you are never supposed to carry the card with you. The card says please memorize the numbers and put the card away!

Also cops take the car insurance app fine I'm sure a license would be no different.

Waiting for super amoled screen with 4k resolution + 4000 mha battery for plus model
I'm not sure that's ever going to happen on an iPhone. A super AMOLED screen uses less power for dark pixels and no power for black pixels. This leads to switching to a dark UI to maximize battery life, and I don't think Apple want to move in that direction for the iPhone or iPad. Yes, I know there are rumors but, unlike other people, I've don't assign any value to rumors. I definitely don't want to move in that direction - Google's switching to a dark UI for Android was one of the main reasons I left that platform.

High res screens are not the features I was hoping for input on that would require you to upgrade to have. Neither are smaller bezels and other cosmetic changes. There is nothing you can do with a high res screen that can't be done with a lower res screen....they both display information. I am not interested in 3D or VR in my cell phone personally. I was looking for something like Touch ID or Apple Pay that required you to upgrade your phone to have.

I just can't think of a new feature that might be added to the iP7 that would make me want to upgrade, and I have felt for a while we may have reached a point where smartphone tech will become stagnant. But I don't follow the cutting edge or rumored tech so I was hoping you guys might postulate some ideas.
