you mean people actually use those cloths... lol

hell id send you mind if it didnt cost more than it was worth to ship..

Its just kind of annoying. Seems like Apple keeps taking things away. No charger next year? ;)

I'm not surprised, because they did the same thing with the iPod. The 3rd gen, for example, came with a dock, case, inline remote, etc... The 2nd gen was similar, but no dock (3rd gen introduced the bottom connector).

The extra benefits of being an early (earlier?) adopter.

quick question? does this mean that we really don't need a screen protector for the 3g s. i had one on my first iphone but is it really necessary now because of that coating on the screen.

I would not say that this means that you won't need a screen protector. The new coating on the screen is said to resist fingerprints and grease a lot better than past coatings, and is able to be cleaned a lot quicker (a single wipe on a shirt sleeve). But the one major negative that I have heard in other threads and on a few sites about the new coating is that it is more prone to hairline scratches (to what extent we don't really know yet). So it is really up to you as to what you do, I will most likely go for a screen protector when I update to the 3GS later this year as my current iPod (which I assume has the old coating) has a TON of hairline scratches on it, so if that is true about the new coating, then it will probably have even more.

Just to verify, it is ok to use the cloth that comes with a SwitchEasy case, right? In my case, I have a Colors case. SwitchEasy calls the cloth that comes with it a "One Microfiber Wipe".

I lost the cloth that came with my 2G about a week after purchase and totally forgot that it came with a cleaning cloth when I got my 3GS.

i have never used the cloth that came with with both of my iPhone (first gen and 3G). What's wrong with a soft towel?

But, I'll sell mine for $199.99 each if anybody need one for their 3GS.

wow

but honestly, i was never thrilled with the apple cloth

just spend the 5 bucks and get a NICE microfiber cloth (for cleaning glasses etc...works way better than the crappy cloth apple gives you IMO

I see how this could be considered a petty complaint to some but I for one completely agree. Like so much of life it's the little things that can make such a big difference. The new oilaphobic (sp?) screen coating is great but it still needs to be buffed up time to time. For the money we pay for these phones they could at least keep giving us the wipe down cloth that probably costs them around .02 cents - or less.

just to play devils advocate.....

the price of a two cent cloth really adds up when you shell it out with tens of millions of iPhones ;)

Well that is blindly obvious. Now multiply millions of iphone sales x $299 or more. Point being I think we pay more than enough for these phones to warrant keeping the cheap wipe cloths. It's just a sore point with me and Apple they never fail to gouge you in some form or fashion.

im not disagreeing with you. I'd like to see the phone come with some extra goodies as well...i'm just saying that if apple was trying to cut costs, it makes sense why they'd cut the cloth....its an accessory that probably 70% of users dont use, and it saves them hundreds of thousands in the end.
