I hate to say it, but you're presenting an argument for why Apple SHOULDN'T innovate or be exciting.

Popular = more sales

A company whose purpose is to sell products and services will always choose the "more sales" route.

They've made products that were exiting, innovative, and popular in the past. Remember iPhone X?

I guess the margin must be better on products that are just popular.

Yup. Having just decided that I want to buy my first ever Apple TV that’s the one I’m most interested in seeing. Sadly my guess is 50% chance at most of that being announced at the September 9th event. I also want to buy my first ever HomePod but I really don’t think that is going to be included in the September event. For HomePod I worry that Apple might hold off until spring 2026 when it’s rumoured that Apple Intelligence will finally be released.
If it's not Sept it will most likely be in Oct. Apple seems to release things based on earnings. If the numbers are down we may see it sooner rather than later.

No. the margin is not higher. They sell more. What makes something popular rather than unpopular?

More people buy popular things than unpopular things. That why the popular things are popular.

Popular is not a negative for a company who wants to sell things.

So it’s funny you think “popular” is some kind of “gotcha”. Popular is exactly what they’re aiming for.

And is a rumour about what not to expect a known unknown. A rumour about what not to expect has me rushing for the nitrous oxide, if only to stop me giggling.

Still waiting on that new Studio Display before I will buy any new desktop Mac (Mini or Studio). Until then I will limp along on my 15 year old but still going strong 27" iMac.

I'm not expecting anything of value. If I'm proven wrong I'll be "surprised and delighted" as Steve Jobs would put it, however, the Apple I loved has long since left the chat.

Popular ≠ Exciting or Innovative.

Huh? My post was in response to the claim that Apple was killed by Cook and greed.

Customers opening their wallets are the final arbiters of a company's success. Apple's 1+ Billion active and repeat happy customers have voted, purchasing Apple products they love to own and use, pushing Apple to being one of the most successful tech companies in the world, speaks volumes. Tech forum punditry about products is mere personal opinion.

Apple TV Please
A new Apple TV could be released once every 10 years and still wouldn’t have meaningful upgrades. Go buy an Apple TV today. Why wait? The new one won’t have anything worthwhile included that the old ones don’t.

But me expecting notch-less macbooks 🫢
They do that because they know it is painful for you.
Why this article exists? We all know Apple doesn't release those products in September.
I don't know. That's not very nice of you to assume that "we all know" of anything. Some of us don't know that the Earth is round or the sky is blue. And for others, the Earth is pear-shaped and the sky is grey because it's raining right now.
There will be no solution for PWM for temporal dithering.
I don't know what that means.

I'm excited. Is everything okay?

He kind of did, didn't he?
I always expect the unexpected.
Well then maybe you'll be ready to fight the Joker. Batman says to always expect the unexpected, when you're up against the Joker!

Popular is popular with me. For Apple stuff, I mean.
A man called Casey Jones called me today and whispered quietly that … iTrain is not in prospect.
Crestfallen.
We need to have China build bridges that don't fall down before they're even completed. And we have to stop having ships lose control and crash into bridges. Once the iBridge is stable and not getting knocked down by iConstruction or iShipping, maybe we can have iTrain!
OK so no M5-powered Macs - but what about M6-powered Macs? 🤔
This is what I want to know. I heard or read (maybe here on MacRumors) that the M5 wasn't really going to be a material upgrade anyway, so I have my eyes on M6. Until then, my M1 MBP is still doing fine, and I don't think I've ever heard the fan come on.

Unless we get a glasses-free 3D display, my jaw will not be dropping anytime soon.

Expecting to see only the new iPhones and watches. New Apple TV is a possibility. Any other release for the year should be through a press release in October.

Bummer all i want is a new ATV

I wonder why would we need a new Apple TV? What is something that the current one doesn't do? I always saw my Apple TV as just a content player, nothing else. It does everything an Apple TV should do, what else can they do with it?

The new Apple TV will possibly be better and cheaper than the current one, so it makes no sense to buy one now unless it’s a must have immediately.

So for myself I need eARC which the first gen Apple TV 4K can’t do. But I’ll wait because if the new one is cheaper even the clearance sales of the current might not be up to par.

I watched that happen when Mac’s went to 16gb base, they didn’t drop the prices of the previous ones enough to compensate

You could get a second hand 2nd gen 4K for like 50 Euro and have eARC support, other than that, how else can they make an Apple TV better? I bought mine years ago and didn't even know I have the 2nd gen :D I'm just genuinely curious what do people miss on the current 2nd or 3rd 4k gen and what more could an Apple TV be. It does everything it needs to do, can't think of anything they could do to take it up a notch. I certainly don't want an Apple TV to have a camera or microphones or that sort of nonsense.
