I know websites often keep track of what OS people visiting use. Do most people who visit here use OS X? Just outta curiosity.

I for one use Mac OS X. There has been heaps of threads and polls in this forum about operating systems people use or prefer. I'd say that most people who visit here use OS X- after all, people post here for help on using Macs and applications. And those who are using something else are normally saving up for a Mac or waiting for an update.

Many access from work as well... and their OS at work may very well be XP or Vista. That would skew numbers.

I would say that a large number are dual users anyway, either on separate machines or with Boot Camp/Parallels/VMWare.

I believe this would be hard to ascertain due to some reasons already mentioned.

You might get a rough idea by using a poll. The poll would definitely need to be specific such as the OS that you primarily use at home.

However, if I use Mac OS 9, Mac OS 10.4 and Windows XP equally from home, what would I select as my OS?

Maybe the browser stats for the site would be good enough for what you want.

it's hard to say because of work access. front page and forums are recorded separately, for past month (1st list is front page, 2nd list is forums)

Interesting.

I see where the iPhone beats out Linux. :)

Thanks for posting arn.

hmm... what's interesting to note is that front page without the mobile.macrumors.com page. iPhone would be much higher with that included.

Thanks for the additional info.

I keep hearing that the iPhone/iPod Touch is not a viable browsing device/platform.

Imagine that. :)

Or some of us are still using Windows 2000 at work ;)
Hey, this isn't a sympathy page. :p

Around were I work, some government folks are still using 98 boxes. Amazing.

lol that's OK I don't need sympathy, I'm at work right now, and I do most of my MR surfing on my MB, even here at work :D

but the stats are interesting, TY for the info Arn.

actually

if you take just yesterday (sat), which presumably removes the work component:

63% Mac
26% Windows
8.7% iPhone

Thanks, that was exactly what I was curious about. I wasn't even really thinking about what people prefer or use at home. I was just wondering on any given day how it splits out. Does iPhone include iPod touch?
