Same chipset, same ram, Same Processor. It's all personal, would you rather game at your desk, or in your bed?

The MBP has a superior gpx card on paper but drivers for OSX might make that point moot.

theres not much in it, i say, get an iMac; its cheaper, it has a bigger hard drive (more games) and an amazing screen; i just upgraded from a MBP to a 20" iMac, and gaming is really amazing (and thats with just 1gb of ram)

They are about the same... MBP is probably a bit faster.

The real question is do you need portability or a much bigger (and higher quality) screen?

HDDs in the aluminium iMacs are faster than those in MBPs.
Screens are also not very comparable (24" iMac S-IPS vs. 17" MBP)

Do MBPs have 7200 RPM drives by default? checking..Nope, only as an upgrade.

I'd say the iMac would be faster for most things then.

Now, the iMac has a bigger display, so that takes more graphic power though.

    Well..

I don't think the display size itself really matters, does it? I could run 800x600 on a 17" screen and a 42" screen and they'd both be the same. Now at 1280x1024 and higher, where your pushing more pixels on the screen, then I can see the need for more processing power / memory.
