I need to buy a replacement power cable for my iMac this weekend before work tomorrow.

I have been told a normal kettle cord will work, like the attached picture… but is it a 5a or 13a that I need? Don’t want to damage my iMac with the wrong one.

Let's do the math, shall we? A iMac uses around 70W for regular use and can peak at around 240W with full brightness under full GPU and CPU load. Based on the photo I assume you're located in the UK, which means your A/C voltage is 240V. 5A at 240V equals 1,200W.

Does that answer your question? ;)

Yes, UK. So the 5a is plenty…? I’m not electrically minded, so I’ll need a straight answer, thanks!
