I'm wondering how best to set my resolution. I have mine set at 1600x900 and that seems pretty good. The text size is readable and the windows seem sized correctly for what I mostly view - websites. I looked at the highest resolution (4480x2520) and it was ridiculously small and virtually unusable. Is there some way to get the highest resolution and be able to read everything larger as if I was in the lower resolution? In the same sense, at 1600x900, I sure don't feel like anything is fuzzy. Everything looks quite crisp and readable. Is resolution mostly just a way to fit more on the screen or does it actually generate better/crisper output, especially text.

Hi, Ger19 –

In the "System Settings > Displays", resolutions (such as "1600 x 900") are expressed in "points."

If you haven't done so, turn on "Show all resolutions." On the iMac, resolution options that are marked "(low resolution)" use four pixels for every point, resulting in some traditional ("pre-Retina") fuzziness.

For the standard resolution options, one "point" uses as many pixels as are available, so most of what's drawn remains sharp regardless of the selection.
