Just curious to see what people are ordering NOW as far as screen style selection.

17" matte. I do a lot of work in an area with a lot of windows... glossy screens become a severe annoyance.

Thats what I'm looking at getting now. I love the black bezel but my head hurts trying to look at that thing when its sunny outside. Im just torn 15 vs 17. If I get the 15 I intend to get the Apple Display so I'd get glossy to match it. Wit the 17 I'd just get matte I think.

I took Mr. Toad's Wild Ride on this one. Lots of teeth gnashing. Originally ordered matte, then canceled and changed to glossy HR after bad memories of plastic screens that got snagged. Then decided I really didn't want glossy so changed back to matte. So cancel/re-order again.

Then the price of the stock units started diving. When I saw Amazon had the stock i5 2.4 for $1740 shipped I couldn't justify the $200+ price gap. I'd much rather spend that money on RAM or an SSD, or just bank it for Sandy Bridge. The matte screen is just a luxury for me. I've had a glossy for the past year and half. Not a huge deal. I'd rather have the money. Maybe next time. If I was a graphics pro I could justify it, but I make my money writing memos with Word.

(Yes, there are other places like MacConnection, MacMall that have it even cheap, but Amazon is the only store other than Apple that will treat you decently if they send you a DOA or even slightly defective unit. When I say "Amazon," I mean Amazon, not 3rd parties that sell on Amazon.)

If you're not doing any design work, I think the HR display is a waste.

It's not a waste for general use if it were less expensive. I'd love more screen space. That would be very useful, but not worth $200. My hope is that by the time Sandy Bridge ships next year the hi rez screen will be standard in the mid-range model and up or at least priced under $100. The MBP is already at a steep premium. Only problem is Apple keeps breaking sales records at these prices.

Yay, finally a poll I can actually participate in....15" Hi-Resolution MATTE

Mainly because of the matte thing, but I was going for the 17" originally so I was looking forward to full HD resolution - but this thing is second best - and I get the benifits of more portability. All things considered, I think this is the perfect choise - I'll be bringing this thing much more to the parks and other outside chill spots with a matte screen 15" than with a glossy 15 or 17". My iPhone is viewable in direct sunlight, but with much glare and has to be on full brightness...I suspect I can use the matte in the sun too, full brightness or maybe a bit less - but viewable because it doesn't project a mirror of my face and the background constantly...

I've been beating my head against the wall trying to decide since these laptops were announced. Right this very second I'm leaning towards HR glossy. My thought process is this:

1. I don't do professional design. "Accurate" colors are not important.
2. I like the black bezel more
3. I like the idea of more vivid colors
4. I don't plan on being outside with this much. I have an iPhone for ultimate portability.
5. I can add something like the Moshi anti-glare if the reflections become unbearable

I only have experience with matte screens so I'm taking a bit of a leap here.

As someone mentioned already in one of these threads. Control your lighting and you will be fine.

Oops, thats what I was intending. It's a waste to spend the extra $200.

The glossy screen isn't horrible, after a while your eyes get used to it I guess? If you aren't doing professional design I'd probably just stick with the glossy.
