Anyone know if Apple uses a specific shipping company when you order from the online Apple store?

I think it depends... It's usually FedEx but I have received things via UPS. It should tell you on the screen where you enter your credit card details.

Can you choose which carrier to ship to you? I want to have the new iphone shipped to my house, but I won't be there during the day. Therefore, I would like to pick it up at wherever its taken to when you don't sign for it.

If its Fedex, the nearest Fedex center is a half hour away, while if its UPS, the nearest center is 5 minutes away.

I thought UPS shipped ALL pre-ordered iPhones last year in the US. no?

Nope. My 32GB was delivered FedEx, shipped from China. My 16GB was delivered UPS, shipped from Georgia. Both ordered at the same time.

UPS was at my door at 10:00AM for the 3GS last year, so I would guess they might use them again this year.

They were both pre-ordered before release date? I guess I stand corrected. I remembered most being UPS though because everyone thought it was odd that they didn't stick with Fed-Ex.

When you sign out and have the employee discount the say something along the lines of 'We usually ship by fedex but if you work for DHL UPS or USPS we will ship by that carrier'

Different companies use different shipment services according to the suitability and the rates. Apple is a good company and it is always better to opt for the best as taking risks could prove to be a major disturbance in the growth of a company in the long run.

Apple stores use FedEx ground on a daily basis. They get shipments of 200+ boxes at a time all varying products. For home deliveries they use FedEx express(over night) plus a combination of UPS im sure. FedEx ground also handles some applecare replacements.

I got my Apple Watch on UPS and I live near LA, but I ordered my Mac Book and it came through OnTrac. Maybe they use bigger companies during busier times.
