There are too many sob stories like this going around. I really hope Apple will take the initiative to be more proactive and counteract these kinds of myths that are out there.

Here'a an interesting article that came out a while ago that addresses some of the things I brought up in my post above:
Business Week Article

Sounds like a strong possibility, especially in cases like yours, Abercrombie, where the technology fails even in the hands of people who "know how to use it".

At the school where I teach we used to have only Macs and then one day the board said that we needed to get PC's with MS Windows, because that is the best and the kids have to know Windows to survive in the real world. So the desktop Macs got trashed and in came the Gateway Celerons! We were lucky and got 50 iBooks this past summer for a wireless lab...but our tech coordinator hates macs and is actually selling them off and has ordered Gateway Solo Celerons for next year, because even though the teachers like the iBooks he says they are junk and are not holding up for the price. He says the Gateway Solo is the best for a school computer. They brought one in and it crashed while he was showing it to us. Oh well...good bye Apple...At least I still have mine at home.

Hmm...you say he's SELLING them??? He's an idiot but maybe some may still benifit from this idiot. Now, if these iBooks are crap, and not holding up that would mean he would part with them for a pretty cheap price, right? *INSERT SARCASM* I don't know if I really want an iBook, but I guess I would be willing to pay 2 or 3 hundred dollars for one....I mean That's all theyre worth..

Check out if this is a possibility will ya? Help some fellow users out...I NEED AN IBOOK. My girlfriend has this crappy Dell and wants an iBook but cant get it unless she can get someone to buy the Dell for enough money to buy the iBook...But who wants a used old dell laptop??? Help bring her back to the mac and away from those PC guys that told her to leave!

ditto on that last from teabgs If he's selling of his "crappy" apple laptops (which he shouldn't be able to do anyway) I could use one. Hey he got any "crappy" g4 towers he wants to get rid of cheep too? Heck how about a flat screen too?

Apple may offer quiet "trade ups"

In an unusual move, our Apple rep recently commented that Apple is considering "trade-ups" for machines.

(I'm making this part up, but, as a crude example, it sounds like a school could "trade in" 3 or 4 old Macs towards a deeper discount for a new iMac.)

I don't have the details yet, but will post as soon as I'm able. I'll find out Monday what the scoop is.

This would CERTAINLY be a positive step towards even better education/Apple relations.
