As soon as humanly possible, cover up that beautiful machine! You should invest in a protective sleeve and/or a hard-cover. If you'll be carrying the laptop around alot you'll want to protect it from scratches and dings. Aluminum is great for cosmetic effect, but it's not the most durable metal out there.

I say, just start using it and as the need arises for software look into getting it. It can be overwhelming at first, just use the MBP and see what you like and don't like. I've got MS Office since I need to use excel & word and I got it last Black Friday for practically nothing. Safari, I don't see any problems with it in my usage (1+yrs.)... I've only downloaded firefox to download iPhone updates, which Safari automatically unzips and that doesn't work.

I know there is a 2gb 250gb 15" mbp under the tree.

i am switching from pc to mac, and so excited.

i need to now what i should be buying as far as software....apps....settings...what to do?

help guys!!

You should start looking into cooling solutions. LOL

Which ones do you prefer? I've got one under my tree too. Well I will when it comes in today.

I've not bought a lot of software since I switched a couple years ago. I do like AppZapper and prefer Safari over FF (though I use FF on the PC in the kid's room). I was disappointed with Pages and though I bought iWork I don't use much of anything on it~having used Office at work Pages just doesn't click with me. Ends up I do most of my word processing on Google Documents:rolleyes:

Have fun with the switch~it was so much fun learning that a computer could be more than a necessary evil

Get yourself a speck Seethru harshell case for the new macbooks, to protect it from scratches and dents.

You should know that you are luckier than most. Most families cant afford to purchase their kids a MBP. Most are getting 500 dollar windows laptops.

1) There's no point to this post, other than to be snotty.
2) A lot of kids aren't even getting "$500 Windows Laptops" - as if that is just pocket change - for Christmas.

Leave monetary issues alone, dude.
