I am thinking of getting a used 2.16Ghz core duo Macbook Pro but is that just as fast as a 2.16GHz core 2 duo?

One will run Snow Leopard, the other might not.

    Also, componentry.

Buying a 32bit machine now is a little ill advised. Certain things, such as Java 6 on the Mac side are only supported on 64bit machines.

Apple, never ones to care much about preserving legacy will probably focus more of their optimisation efforts on their 64bit hardware in the future as well.

I imagine Snow Leopard will support all intel machines, including the 32bit ones, but it could well be the last.

Both will because I found a snow leopard torrent with the system requirements listed and no i did not download it. All you need is an intel. But who knows about 10.7, that may be only 64-bit.

(hope id ont get in trouble from apple :) )

Sorry, but illegal betas are absolutely meaningless against the final Gold Master.

Besides, all 32-bit apps run in "Compatibility Mode" that make you restart the application to use the non-ported code.

Apple won't leave that in the final release.
