My facial scan, on more than one occasion, gave me a size S for both headbands and a 33W for the light seal.

I am fully confident in the small head bands. My fitted cap size is 6 7/8 so it makes sense and my head is more round than long. Not really sure about the 33W though. Not even sure what that number means but it’s pretty high in the sizing range. I assume the W means wide.

What size did you get and how is your melon shaped?

Apple should’ve provided a method for us to physically measure our heads instead of the usual machine learning model nonsense to guess our head size. Their app gives varied results. Even for the Apple Watch sport loop they have a guide you can print to measure your wrist size.

I agree, especially for a device of this price tag. Correct me if I’m wrong though, but isn’t that opportunity afforded with an in store pickup or am I misunderstanding?

If this is the case, I hope they have test units and all the different light seal sizes on hand. I do not want to unbox my AVP in store. My unboxings come with a ritual- wash hands, make sure table surface is spotless, lay down a soft non abrasive layer on the table, etc. Ya know, the usual OCD stuff lol. There are also the evil eyes watching in the store.

I don’t need a genius to guide me through it either. Part of the fun of new tech is exploring and discovering stuff on my own.

Maybe Apple dont want to be associated with WWII?

I got home delivery, and gonna try out the included for a couple of days and then make an appointment once the hoopla dies down if I think I need to adjust.

I saw something a few days ago about code pulled out of the Apple Store app, which describes a process of exchanging miss-fitting seals. There aren’t many sizes of light seals, and they don’t take up that much space, so I expect they will carry them at Apple Stores. Apple knows that getting the right fit is critical to whether or not people will enjoy and, therefore, keep their Apple Vision Pro, so this is something they are giving very careful consideration to.

I got S/21W must have tested at least 20 times and Every time I get the same size. Someone else is picking it up for me so I hope its accurate!

And does anyone know what these sizes even mean? Is it the width? Or distance from our eyes?

S & M means the size of the head band for both types supplied. Both are adjustable to a certain degree to fit different head sizes.

# W is the size of the light seal. This varies depending on non corrected vision vs correction lenses as well as eye spacing and facial size. This is what keeps outside light from entering your field of vision.

I got M 24W, but I only tried it once.. lol, I hope it's right! I'm getting home delivery. Hopefully the instructions make it very very clear how to determine your fit is right, otherwise I'm dragging this thing to the Genius Bar for them to look at...

I wanted to do in-store pickup but it was only available several days after the available delivery date... impatience got the better part of my judgment there.

I got 25W but I already know I'll make them give me 21W in the store when I pick up. I'll use lens inserts but even so I want this thing so close to my face that my eyelashes just about strafe the inserts. :D Every fraction of a millimeter counts for comfort and FOV. (minimizing leveraged weight)

I've noticed if you need the optical inserts it changes the light seal size too. I can order for day 1 pickup in store but the optical inserts are 3 weeks out... so I wonder what they will do for that case on pickup. I might just skip the optical inserts because I wear contact lenses more often and I could always add the inserts later... but then I might need a different light seal for $200...I know thats less than the sales tax on AVP but annoying.

I imagine they have mock inserts in the store to help you decide one sizing.

I used a Quest 3 for 2 months and would highly recommend you get lens inserts. The fact of the matter is you will use the AVP less if you only wear contacts occasionally otherwise.
Also - something that gets mentioned rarely - with contacts in the Q3 I noticed that the weight of the seal on my cheeks made it harder for me to close my eyes completely and made the contacts dry out fast but that may not be an issue for everyone, obviously. But it is a fact that, looking at screens, we blink less and our eyes dry out - just better not to have contacts in them when that happens.

Bottom line, I'd plan on getting lens inserts. They'll make using the device more frequent and frictionless.
