Just curious as to what SSD size you all have ordered. I'm torn....
Just a FYI but Apple sells a Blue or Silver 8/8/16GB/1TB 24" iMac config that arrive at stores periodically. It is not custom order if available. They are rare to find as they go very fast. Configure the $1699 model, with those two option and check pick up for local stores online will become accessible

Went 1tb seeing as I have 680gb or so free at the moment on a 1tb fusion (1.whatever gb it is) And my Photo library and iTunes sit on an external drive. I tend to clutter the place up.

I did not order a 24" iMac. However if I were to buy one, I would order the 256GB model

I ordered 512GB. I have the M1 Pro and I use 384GB on it already, so I am imagining it will be quite similar with the iMac. I could probably stop storing photos and music locally, maybe clean up the downloads folder and delete a game or two I rarely play... but that's all management I shouldn't have to do just to make a computer work.

2TB

Unless something goes terminally wrong (with either the iMac or myself! 😵) there a good chance I'll still be using it 10 years from now, and now I can fill it up with just about as much crap as I like!

This is how I got mine; just kept checking Apple's local stock between two stores and snagged it when it became available.

I opted for 1TB because this will be my workhorse machine. I could get by with 512 GB, but I prefer to keep my iCloud Drive not set to "Optimize Storage" -- I'd just as soon have everything downloaded (and backed up locally) at all times. My Photos, Music and TV libraries will all go on a reasonably fast external drive.

For my M1 MacBook Air, on the other hand, I just got the 256 GB of storage because it's really a just a writing/general purpose machine and the iMac will do the heavy lifting as far as storage.

2TB. I like to keep my large iTunes collection on local storage with multiple backups to a USB HDD and a NAS. Also figured to go for the most I could afford at the time as it is not upgradable.

I got tired of retiring machines with massive amounts of unused storage - usually more than half unused/still available. Apple lets me store my stuff in the cloud. Yes, it costs me monthly - still cheaper over time than buying local storage. Add to that, the convenience of not moving data every time I purchase a new PC... I just go for the minimum amount (256GB). External storage is cheap. I keep an external HD for local copies of videos, or other large file formats. Rarely need it.
