I bought the upgrade for Quick Time which I thought said that it allowed me to play .avi files but, unless I'm doing something seriously wrong (ie. clicking on the file) then this is wrong.

Message that pops up (after it tries to open quicktime) syas the necessary compressor could not be found - or something along those lines

Thanks for any tips

PLAYER

I use VLC player.

Type that into google & it'll take you there.

I find it the best player for unusual formats

Recent release versions of VLC have made it unstable at times. 🙁
 
players..

I've always found it good, but I'll try grabbing the other one mentioned above, as I always like having plenty of players...
