Back then it was great looking, but the paint would flake off the chassis and the hinges would break. Nowadays it just looks like a last gen Dell Inspiron.

Heh. Doesn't keep me from wanting one. Compared to my old & slow PowerBook, it'd be an oasis of fastness.
 
I think that's because the time for it has passed. When Apple did it several years ago, it was an innovation, and it was THE machine to have at the time. If Dell has a similar design today, well, one might say that Dell is a bit far behind.

I think that pretty much hits the nail on the head. You really have to appreciate it for what it was at that point and time. The thinness of that thing was unheard of when it came out as well.
 
My dad bought a PowerBook G3 one month before the PowerBook G4 came out. He was not happy about his purchase that much after that. :)
