Has anyone noticed that during the past 2 months or so, there were a lot more news/leaks about 5C than 5S on MacRumors front page? Which makes me feel that 5C is the flagship phone that deserves attention, rather than the 5S.

Now type apple.com. The first thing you'll see is a huge ad of iPhone 5C.

They even talked about the 5C first during the showcase.

OK, I admit the whole budget phone idea is great. But Apple ruins it with the pricing. They are trying too much to advertise something that is only $100 less than the premium device.

Good job Apple. Do you think people on low budget will fall for this trick?

Obviously the 5S is the better phone so Apple knows people will already be drawn to that without help of advertising so they want to help the 5C sales as well by showing it off, who gives a **** which one is given more advertising?

Hardcore Apple users will buy the 5S with minimal advertising. The 5C is aimed at those without an iPhone, and they're the ones who need advertised to. It's a good move.

The 5C is a great idea with insane pricing that ruins it all.
Exactly. And it's a new product that's why it needs a little more attention just to make sure everyone knows it. At the same time I kinda though it will be targeted to masses so it would also make sense to promote it more while hoping to sell more, though with pricing like this I'm not sure anymore.

"insane pricing" is being a bit melodramatic as the 5C has the same internals as the iPhone 5 which would have been the same price had they kept it around

Not really.

The UK price of their "flagship" model keeps going up and up every year now.

So you would expect that a 5C - which uses the guts of the 5, yes, but now utilises plastic casing - would be significantly cheaper than the flagship.

It's all about the money, money, money.

There are stupid actions. Then there are more stupid actions. Then there is buying an iPhone 5C.

-> Decrease the 5C price to $400 (which is still insanely expensive compared to other WP/Android mid-end models) then we'll talk.

Agreed. For only $100 less I'm not sure what additional markets Apple thinks it's targeting.

I remember when Apple was getting ready to introduce the 5 and everyone was freaking out over the larger screen, now it is OK.

I suspect this will pass, too!:p

The same in Australia.

Now the new iPhone 5S 32gb is at the price point where the 5 64gb was at. I thought the price of electronic stuff should be going down year after year. Guess I was wrong.

The price of iPhone 5S goes up in Singapore (by 16 USD) and goes down in Hong Kong (by 1 USD), but that's due to changes in exchange rates. Don't know what's up everywhere else.

Both are ****.

And yes, £50 price increase over 2 years = what the *******.

You're not getting any of my money this time, and possibly forever. Miss the old days where everything was exciting :-(

You better get on the phone to Tim Cook and tell him that his massive team of highly paid financial analysts have got their sums wrong and you got it right with your master plan.

I agree, I was surprised when I went to apple.com yesterday. The iPhone 5C ad on the front page almost made me puke because it looks worse than windows 8.

i think it's just apple's excuse to jack up price. yes, AUD is worth less now, but not by much, certainly should not cause a $100 increase in price.

Apple is doing what most marketing leading companies are doing. They are starting their slow descent. It happened with Nokia (no one will ever over take their sales, they did), it happened with Blackberry too, and now it's happening to Apple.

At some point the customers will stop buying on name alone, expect some innovation and also more value for their money. That said they will still sell millions of these phones as they have added carriers in China and Japan, but i do think it's at that critical point for Apple.

I never thought I would leave nor a couple of my friends. We are Apple diehards, but out of the 10 of us 4 left in 2013. Obviously not a scientific poll, but usually these are not seismic events at first.

I think that's what Apple is planing on. But people will see the only $100 difference between the 5S and 5C and go wtf? Save up a little more and a 5S is mine. Only people who are supers strict with budgets or people who really want a coloured iPhone will get a 5C. The rest will save up for a 5S.

If the difference was $200-$250 people would have gotten the 5C in a heartbeat. I would have. But at only a $100 difference? No way.

lol, what, 500 USD is not cheap?

It's very cheap to Tim Cook.

The reason for the increase in Australia is our recent 15% drop in the exchange rate. When the 5 and 4S came out the aud was at parity with the usd. Now it's significantly under. If apple didn't increase the price they would be making a much lower profit in Australia compared to other countries.

Agreed. The 5C is different from what Apple has offered in the past, so it makes sense that they will advertise it more.
