What time on Friday to buy @ Apple Store?

Some years? Other times? There have been TWO other ipad models launched.... Just sayin..
Back to your question - NOTHING has been stated OFFICIALLY as far as anyone knows.
The 8am was from a poster who knew a guy who was in charge of mall security.
I bet within ten minutes of there being official word, something will be posted on the Macrumors.com home page as well as a giant thread here asking when to line up. You'll need to try really really hard to miss it.
Last year I believe the announcement of what time they'd be available wasn't until Thursday.

While my friend is 100% certain that is the date, I am not 100%. Again, he was the one who correctly told me about iPads going on sale at 5pm last year because he has lots of police friends and there was a police officer during the event (His police officer friend told him he was there at 5pm to guard the ipad sale 6 days before the event).
I was chatting with an Apple store employee in my area and he seemed to think they would go on sale in the morning, but of course we all know they are often the last to know about these things.

It may be available when the store opens since they didn't specifically mentioned 5 pm availability.
Wrong. The iPad 2 was at 5pm. The 3G original iPad was at 5pm. Not the wifi models.

Anyways i would put my bets on an 8am launch, 5pm doesnt make much sense this year since they are offering preorders and that would allow only about 4 hours of time to pick them up.
yep iPad 1 was released in the morning. Then when the 3G model came out weeks later, the 3G model was the one sold at 5pm.
as well as the iPad 2.
I don't think time is the issue here. If your not through the door before the stock disappears it could all be over by 9am anyway 😀

I think the stores open earlier for appointments so it's not impossible to see an 8am launch. And I could be wrong about this but wasn't the 4S launch at 8am? I dont remember.

I wandered in to my Apple store and bought a 64 gig 3G model at about 11.30am on the iPad 1 launch day (Friday from memory).
No pre order and I waited in a short queue for about 15 minutes.

wow you got lucky. Did ipad1's sell out faster than the ipad2 or did apple just make more ipad2's???
