What to do jailbreak or What else?

I am buying a iPhone 1g used from eBay.com its service is contract with AT&T and In India i want to use B.S.N.L what should I do should I Unlock/jailbreak it or do something else

It honestly isn't worth it to do anything to the original iPhone. Jailbreaking it will probably make it slower than it already is.
