When IOS 5 finally comes out are you going to sync everything to your i device, or play with iOS first? can't figure out since it's going to erase everything on my device.

How are you going to get iOS on your device without syncing your data too? It's all done in the same process.

There really isn't much to play with. Once you have set up ICloud and the new notification system that's pretty much it. It's nice and all and I expect Apple have kept a few things out of the betas just for a nice surprise at the event :)

I thought that the erasing prior to updating step was just to install the betas without a problem. Apple cant really expect after the public release that everyone will actually do this before each update. But I could be wrong. We'll find out soon enough.

Yup, this is what I'm thinking too. In addition to the Nuance voice technology, I think we'll see other cool stuff too. There's no way they revealed everything back in June.

Let's hope so ;)

*fingers crossed*

I believe the biggest thing we'll see is Nuance voice technology. Other than that, i'm not quite sure what else Apple will show off.

But the first thing i'm going to do is sync everything to the brand new iPhone 5, and basically treat it as a brand new device, which means i'll be losing all the levels i passed in Angry Birds, Tiny Wings, etc. but it's all worth it at the end for the iPhone 5.
Wish there was a way to keep the data somewhere though..

I agree Reach9, like syncing game saves up to iCloud. Would be an awesome idea...I've got too many perfect levels completed in Cut The Rope :p

That's the next addition to iCloud.. syncing app data.
Ah you just reminded me of Cut The Rope.. oh no all my boxes.. dammit. :(

If you backup to iCloud you are essentially backing up app data and therefore game saves.

Well with all my music and apps and photos it's goin to take a while and I am going to want to play with some new features like notifications iniOS 5 but can't do that without syncing. So I hope cute the rope and angry birds get saved.

I think I will get IOS 5 the day after as the servers will crash under the strain

I'm JB'd at the moment but very much looking forward to iOS 5. Once it comes out, I'll do a full restore and see if iOS 5 is all it's cracked up to be. I'm hoping so.

I'll probably give it a day or two before I upgrade myself - checking the discussions before hand and see if there are any issues. I'll create a new iCloud user, as opposed to upgrading my MM.

Not sure if anyone can answer this and its not really that important but will we need to get this via itunes or will it be a download?

Sorry if its a stupid question.

Im pretty sure this will be an itunes update - much like all the others.

I'll be very surprised if there is not a itunes /OSx update along with it as well.

I used to play with my iOS almost every day. But then my eyesight failed and I got hair on my palms.

So, I don't play with my iOS much any more. I plan to download it and then get on with my day. ;)

I was under the impression that the initial download for iOS 5 would be a traditional iTunes download of the full OS, and the updates following 5.0.0 would be OTA delta updates.

Syncing is nothing to do with updating the firmware (upgrading to iOS 5 or even to point updates within iOS 5). Firmware updates can require reboots. Syncing (your songs etc from iTunes) happens in the background: you can still use the device.
