What to do, what to do!!

Since the news Came out about free MIFI at Verizon i'm thinking about going this route:

I'm getting an iPad this weekend. I think what i'm going to do now is drop my iphone from ATT and pick up this Palm-Pre+. With that i can connect up to 5 devices (ie iPad) via WiFi to the pre and tether data. Now i don't have to pay the $129.00 on the iPad or the $15/$30 per month data subscription. Yeah i'm not too thrilled about the pre but just that alone will be a huge savings. Plus i won't be losing any apps since they'll be available on my iPad.

what do you guys think?

Are you under contract from AT&T? If not, its doesn't sound like a bad idea, except that you'd ALWAYS have to carry two devices (Pre and iPad) instead of one (iPhone). Personally, I plan to get a 3G iPad - however, I DO NOT have an iPhone. If I had an iPhone, I don't know that the iPad would be as appealing to me...
