I have an M3 Max 16-in MacBook Pro which I regularly connect to a 28-in Huawei MateView display.
This afternoon, during a regular working session, the external display turned black (no image). Moving the pointer up beyond the menu bar worked fine — the pointer disappearing beyond the built-in display — and macOS (15.5) sees it just fine in System Settings and in all other relevant places.
In the past, it sometimes happened that, plugging the display in would be unresponsive. This would be solved quite reliably by either (a) unplugging the power, wait a bit, plug mains again or (b) keeping the power button pressed for 10-15 seconds until the display would reset.
As you may guess, these did not work today.
A Reddit post shows plenty of users with similar issues and blame a potential motherboard overheating issue: if that were the case, shouldn't the display turn off completely? Why is it clearly awake but not getting the signal from the MacBook Pro?
I tried with different cables and also with different Macs, same result: it shows the desktop for a fraction of a second and then turns black.
Thinking that the Macs could be wrong for some reason, I tried to turn it on without a connected device — a thing that this monitor can do during setup as it supports WiFi connection to Huawei supported devices — but nothing, it turns on for a fraction of a second and then goes back to black.
Bought in late 2021, it is out of warranty and repairs would cost almost as a new display so, at this point, I am only interested in being sure I have done everything in my power to either restore it to life or to understand what happened. Any advice on this will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Did you try to turn up the brightness?
The HUD apparently works but without seeing anything onscreen I wouldn’t know how to navigate it (it’s all touch based). Even resetting it again this morning resulted in the configuration screen appearing for less than a second and then disappearing.

Try connecting a different computer if you're able. Borrow a friend's PC laptop...
Try a replacement cable.
Try different inputs if the display has them (DisplayPort, HDMI, USB-C, etc).

If none of the above work, then sounds like the display has died somehow. As for what to do at that point, I'm not certain. The Huawei MateView was never available in the US, so you'll have to search some of the EU/Canadian-centric forums for ideas. Reddit might have some useful info.

Thank you for your suggestions.
I've tried with my older 2016 MacBook Pro, same symptoms: a brief flash of life and then nothing.
Tried with USB-C to USB-C, then with another USB-C, then another adapter for DP. Same result...

The Huawei support was quite kind this morning: they offered free shipping and evaluation of the damage then, if I would refuse the repairing quote, they would ship the display back to me, again for free.
Later in the morning, I realised that, when I bought this on Amazon, I had added a 2-year warranty extension, which happens to last until this November. I have opened a case with them and will let you know what they tell me.
Even if they simply pay for the repair, I'm on it!

The support thinks it is a cooked motherboard.

The warranty replied and paid the promised premium so I will now send in the display for repair at Huawei to see how much they ask for the repair. If it is not too much (<300€, for which I cannot find a new display of this quality), I will take it.
Otherwise, for about 600€, the original price of the MateView, what would you advise? It has to be 4K or more, and 27-in or more, with good colour accuracy since I work with InDesign/Illustrator.
Thanks!
