Beasticus, my late 2011 MBP 15, finally bit it this weekend, due to its second gpu failure. It was a good one - 2.5 ghz i7, high definition matte screen (1050 rather than the current 1080 standard for HD). I updgraded it to 16GB ram and a 1tb 960 EVO. Case, screen and keyboard (oh, that keyboard) are excellent, partly due to Apple doing an extraordinary job of refurbing it under the free logic board replacement program a few years back. Wiped it and did a fresh install of High Sierra and all apps a few months back when I installed the new SSD. Ran circles around my 2017 MBA and only slightly less snappy than my 2018 MacMini with the i7, 32 GB ram and a 500 GB SSD.

I'm pulling the EVO for other uses. The question is: What to do with the rest (no, I'm not going to bake it in the oven or spend hours on a hack to disable the dgpu)?

You could also have the GPU properly fixed at a shop but it appears you'd rather not invest time and effort into this machine.

Off to ebay as spares then?

If you want to take the time. Disassemble it and sell the parts on eBay. You can likely get something for the busted motherboard too if you sell it for parts or repair only. If you don't feel like taking the time and hassle of selling everything separately. Sell it whole for parts or repair only.

In either case. Take good pictures, give detailed specs, verbally describe any defects and be honest about what you think is wrong with it. It'll sell.

Research sold listings to figure out pricing. If you have a decent history. Set a reasonable Buy It Now price. If you have little or no history. Sell it for auction and cross your fingers that you'll get a good price. An honest description and detailed pics increase buyer confidence, thus bids. If selling individual parts. Find the correct Apple Parts Numbers and put them in the title.
