My daughter gave me her laptop, macosx. Last night she changed the pass word to something I could remember. But just put it in sleep mode .So when I open it and try to go on Safari it did nothing. I right clicked and the menu said the application wasn't working. I clicked on one of the options and a error code -600 came on the screen. We had a storm and I thought maybe something went wrong or change so I did a restart thinking that might fix it. When it came back on all I have is the desktop picture but no dashboard or anything. I can't shut it down or anything. What happen and what do i do?

mac os x trouble

I forgot to mention, she also downloaded Skype!

I would start by repairing permissions and if that fails; I would do an archive and install of the OS.
Do you have contentbarrier installed? If so, go here for an update and see if this solves your problem.

That error message mans that Safari wasn't completely quit; use the Activity Monitor in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder to force it to quit. If it doesn't show up or still won't open, save all open documents in other applications, and then quit the loginwindow process from the Activity Monitor to force a logout. You may then need to log back in.
