Hi all,

So I have an 11 series phone, and so far, the 14 doesn’t seem like it’ll have any game-changing features.

Is there any info on what we can realistically expect for the iPhone 15 series in 2023?

USB-C and 3nm processor, for sure.
Why usb-c “for sure”? Everyone keeps saying that, but it’s not a done deal.

And if they release the 14 with lightning with usb-3 transfer speeds then there’s no need for usb-c.

They would go all-in on induction charging before moving to usb-c, and usb-c is not great. It’s better than usb-2.0, but it’s not as nice an experience as plugging in lightning.

Not at all… I don’t think so.

Other than the usual camera upgrade, and faster chip, maybe a turn back to rounded edges? Maybe a FOR THE LOVE OF GOD flat back no-camera-bump periscope lens? (Pshh, yeah right 🙄)

Rumors are all over the place…. Pick your favorite and throw some coins in a wishing pond, or manifest it to be true and claim it next year. 🥴

But, if the 14 doesn’t excite after watching the keynote, then just enjoy the 11 for another year and likely get a really super phone next year (if let’s say all the rumors come true).

But that’s no fun, is it? You can always just upgrade to the 14 from the 11 and get a really solid upgraded experience 👍 and then sell the 14 next year and get the 15 if that’s the phone you find you REALLY want.

Maybe a slightly redesigned shape, plus as others have said, camera upgrades, performance improvements, better connectivity, and hopefully usb-c. I’m guessing that will also be the year apple will launch their AR glasses, so maybe something complementary to that hardware. What won’t it have? Charging brick, notch 🤣

Not much except for USB-C and periscope lens.

The 14 is the major update with the display and camera sensor.

Probably not much.

Having come from a 11 Pro Max to a 13 Pro Max, the one thing I am noticing is how the 13 is keeping a whole lot more apps in RAM thanks to the extra 2GB, it’s been refreshing to see this.
Then of course the smoother 120hz screen (not a major thing though), but I do notice certain animations in certain areas are a whole lot faster and smoother. Larger screen and better camera of course are great to have.

The 11 Pro Max is still such a powerhouse of a device though, I was planning to keep mine for another year at least and just get it a new battery.

I think if one has an 11 Pro Max with a good battery you can wait another year or 2 honestly.

Won’t be usb c that’s for sure (soz Android fanboys)
I wouldn't be so sure about that. It's coming, and would be fairly simple for Apple to implement. Also, personally I'm not an Android fanboy but I want USB-C.

Difficult to know what to expect.

The non-Pro models surely have to get a big spec bump given how lacklustre the rumours seem to be for the non-Pro 14 this year. So I'd expect them to get the pill instead of the notch, probably 120hz ProMotion rolled out across the range. USB-C likely too, but wouldn't be surprised to see them delay that until 2024.

Usual improvements - faster, more efficient processors and improved battery life. Better camera tech.

Base storage will be bumped to 256GB across the range, with the Pro models getting a 2TB storage option.

Form factor wise, I expect next year will still be the same (Apple generally change form factor every 4-5 years, and next year will be the 4th for this 'squared off' design with camera bump).

But wouldn't surprise me if next year got the next major form factor refresh where I think we might get a completely notch/pill-free design, and no camera bump, although I think it's more likely for iPhone 15.

At some point I think we might see Apple's 'M' silicone come to iPhone e.g. an M 'mobile' chip but that could be 2-3 years away.

Nothing is a "done deal" with Apple.

But if you had to bet, USB-C or some variation (e.g. USB-4) will be coming either next year or the following year given how much pressure Apple is under from regulators and overseas courts to implement it soon. It's one of the more likely inclusions.

Does that mean all apple products that have USB C are made for android fanboys?
iPhone is the most important Apple product by far and will never have usb c. Apple would not lower themselves to using it in their most important product. After lightning, it will be wireless charging only, probably in 2027-2028. Until then it will be lightning

You mean Apple will never give up those royalties from Lightning.

They are under pressure: true. But I really like the counter someone posted in a past thread about the EU legislation: Apple would sooner remove lightning than put in USB-C.

They have MagSafe, and would probably want to continue developing that. And it would be VERY courageously BRAVE of Apple to remove the charging port and go full MagSafe.

USB-C and the pill cutout for the non-pro models are two locks for the iPhone 15.

Everything else is speculation. I think Apple will continue with the flat sides. Perhaps they switch to round volume buttons like the past. Maybe the camera module continues to grow. Size-wise we should expect the same 4 new options as we are getting next week.

Appreciate all your thoughts. It looks like the next phone will be a bit of a dud for me as well.

The camera seems to get a bit better every year, but I’m just an average camera user, so I’m not really seeing the improvement in my daily use.
