13” MBB, bought in June of 2019.

I have been using my MBP daily since I bought it with no issue. Last week it suddenly developed a display issue where the screen is full of horizontal black lines. I have a Genius Bar appointment for next Monday. I have been using Apple products and Macs for years and never had an issue that requires taking anything in.

When I look on-line the issue my MBP is having appears similar to the ‘flexgate’ problem, but it sounds like that issue was resolved from the 2018 models. I’m assuming they won’t be able to fix the problem the day of my appointment and I will have to come back, and of course the warranty period has ended. Has anybody expirenced a similar issue with a 2019 MBP.....did Apple charge to repair it?

Also, any ideas as to what to expect for a turn around time to get the MBP back?

Thanks in advance for any insight!

If it’s down to a known fault (flex gate), then you should be fine. I’ve just had my 2016 MBP keyboard repaired free of charge.

Apple typically are more generous than most, as long as you appear to be honest and haven’t appeared to have caused damage deliberately. Of course, this isn’t always the case, but often the case.

Until they have a look then no one really knows. If it’s a paid for thing, then they’ll let you know before work starts.

Regarding timing, Apple arranged pick up and re-delivery as I couldn’t get an Genius Bar appointment any time soon. It was faultless...they sent an empty box, I followed the packing instructions and then it was back with me after four days. I was quite nervous about sending it away, but actually it was fine. I know a friend who had the same issue about a year ago, and they fixed his keyboard in store whilst he waited. It very much depends on what the problem is.

Thank you for your reply. I had my Genius Bar appointment yesterday evening. Unfortunately the repair quote was in the $500 range to replace the screen. I was a bit bummed out to be honest Given that the MacBook is less than three months out of warranty and the problem developed in the course of normal use. I have been using Mac laptops for over twenty years and this was the first one with any sort of issue. Heck, I still have one of those white MacBooks from the early 2000s and it still boots. I guess I have been lucky over the years but still wish they would have thrown me a bone here.

I can still use the MacBook in clamshell mode with an external monitor so I will hang on to it, will probably get a Lenovo Yoga C740 as my daily driver though.

Oh hell....sorry to hear that.

As you say, for a regular customer over many years and only three months out of warranty I would have expected something more from Apple. I know they didn't have to, but normally they are generous.
