My dad was a huge startac fan. He had his for 6 years until it finally crapped out. Then he got a new motorola flip phone and it wasn't the same and he did not like it much. Now he has a blackberry.

The Star Tac was my first cell phone and I absolutely loved it. Small, long battery life, goood reception, easy to use, nice features...I really do miss it. I had it for four or five years.

Then I had some Audiovox POS, and now I am on my second Treo (the first fell inteh water). I have really tried, but cannot like the Treo to save my life. It doesn't even beep when you have voicemail - well it does - once, and then never again.

I'm probably going for a Blackberry next, as I need the e-mail and document support. Hopefully a better experience than the Treo. I have no idea why people praise the Treos so much. They suck.

My first phone was a Nokia 5100 series phone but, it was a pre-paid plan and I hardly used it at all. The year after I had that my parents go a new cell phone plan and I was able to get a phone. The brand-new Nokia N-Gage QD came out, so that was the free phone I got with my plan. I know everyone has their comments about the original N-Gage but, the QD is actually a pretty nice phone. The only thing it lacks from today's phones are a camera.

It has a MMC (like SD) card slot, you can record phone convos, watch videos, view images, take notes, it's a pretty good little device. I still use it today but, it's starting to show it's age a bit and I would like a phone with a camera in it. I was looking at the new Motorola RAZR V3i (SD card slot + camera) but, with all this talk about an iPhone I think I'll wait a bit. But, until then I'll still use my N-Gage QD, it's a bit scuffed up but, the battery still works great and it works fine. :)
I have that phone!

Out family has so many phones it's insane!

Motoroloa SLVR
Motoroal V600
Motorola V551
Motorola V300
Motorola T720
Nokia N-Gage QD

and some older ones that nolonger work.

THe QD is mine, but everyone else has motorols (3 people).
Also, some were free.

I like using my Motorola RAZR flip phone. :)

In my lifetime I've had 3 candybars and 3 flips:

Siemens C25 -> Nokia 3310 -> Sony Z7 -> Moto V600 -> Nokia 6230i

And my current phone:

Moto U6

I must say that I do prefer the flip phones, just for the reason of opening it and closing it when making/receiving calls! ^^ I've never owned a slider, and I don't think I ever will. The design just doesn't appeal.

Best phone I ever owned.

To my eye, the StarTac is yet to be topped. So many features and things have been introduced, but that StarTac defined what a phone should be for me, and nobody has successfully redefined it yet. Perhaps Apple will be the first to do so.

My first phone is a Nokia 3285. And I'm still using it. I've sat on it causing a crack on the outer screen and have dropped it alot. Still keeps on running.

Currently looking at a replacement. Have not decided on going flip or not.

But my main beef with flip phones is how they look. Most are rounded and clunky and don't look classy at all. The only flip phone I've seen that looks good is the Razr since it looks nice and sleek, well designed, one piece. But I'd never get one due to all the bad things I've heard about them.

Anyone else think that flip phones are terribly ugly?
I think that they generally are horrendous looking.

I love the RAZR, and I'm considering getting one. Idk. I'm trying to hold out to see what the "iPhone" may be like.

My current phone is an awful, cheap Nokia candybar something or other.

I hate hate hate it.

I get the cheapest phone I can find (no bluetooth, no camera, no ...)

Then I make it last as long as I can (one is nudging six years and will turn up its toes soon).

Then I buy the cheapest phone I can find ...

I have had one flip phone (a Siemens - bulky and poor reception), and one slide phone (Nokia - great, but was nicked) and several candy bar phones (Nokia, Nokia, Nokia, Nokia, Ericsson (not Sony), Motorola, Motorola.

I usually turn the phone off, to conserve battery life, and don't bother with voice mail.

I bought a ROKR to replace my aging Nokia. Don't laugh, it has really good battery life. Unless you try to play music. Other than that, it's ok. I just use the kb shortcut to put it on hold when it's in my pocket. I hated the Nextel flip phone they gave us at my last job. Battery life sucked and it was a pain to answer if in your pocket for some reason. My parents have a flip phone and my Mom's always wanting me to help her turn off the features she never uses because somehow they get turned on while it's in her purse. It was the cheapest they could get from Verizon though.

All I want in an iPhone is a good interface and excellent battery life. The latter being the thing I care most about and the thing I'm most worried Apple might not think so much about. The rest is cake.

The StarTac I think probably was like the first modern day clamshell flip phone. My dad still has his, it still works but only when plugged in. This thing was not that big and seems pretty durable. It would be cool if they started making these things again. I remember my dad having these phones:

There was another MicoTac he had but I can't find a pic of it. Its in our basement somewhere along with a car phone or two.

THIS PHONE- A Qualcomm was very very skinny, especially for like 1996. I don't want to hear motorola & other cell companies talking about how their phones are so skinny.

Then he had a the startac

Then this piece of crap
mot_v265.jpg

The he changed jobs and went back in time to get this phone
motorola_v60_Pair.jpg

But soon after got this phone. He likes it but has some gripes about it. You can't see it at all in daylight, when in his office he gets horrible battery life even though he gets good reception, it freezes a lot, and the settings get messed up a lot.

A tribute to the StarTac...

I said "other." This is because I like the design of the Sidekick. I've had the Sidekick I, II, and III. They're all extremely comfortable to talk into, and they have a hidden keyboard which is a big plus.

Agreed.;)

I wish that I could flip my flip phone with a wrist snap. Nerdy as it may be, I like how the characters in FFVII: Advent Children flip their phones. But then again, slider phones sort of remind me of Batman...

::Ahem::

But yes, I like flip phones. They're nice.
