What Upgrading to iPhone 18 Pro From iPhone 17 Pro Gets You

I bet you wireless charge it so this is the source of overheating... Mine 16 Pro Max never overheated on CarPlay with music and navigation because i charge it with cable

17 Pro 12 GB for advanced AI

Interestingly, Apple specifies that for the advanced AI features in a Mac, it also requires 12 GB RAM, except Apple doesn't make any 12 GB Macs. I think this further points to a 12 GB Neo next year.

This is total greed from Apple ... This should be on most iPhones Pro.. 3rd party apps have this for ages.

I really do not like the heft added particularly for Pro max.

14 Pro max, albeit a great device for its time, permanently scarred me at 240g
18 Pro max is a whomping 249g

Even if weight distribution is better, that is an absolute beast.

17 pro max being 233g is quite a wide gap
and 16 pro max before that at 221g

I say this somewhere every year, but if you have the current iPhone, then the next one isn’t for you. It’s probably not for 2 or 3 generations before either. It’s for the holdouts on much older hardware. But if you have the money available to afford it, or the new features genuinely MAKE you money, whatever, knock yourself out. But gen-gen there’s not really enough iterative improvements to justify (imo) another $1200 for a year. I’ve got a 14 pro max and feel no need to upgrade. Do I want new and shiney? Yeah, of course, but I don’t need to upgrade, battery is still great, does everything I need

I bought a 17 Pro around the end of June after Apple raised prices on many other products. I knew the price increase was coming, I had been waiting for the 18 Pro to finally upgrade my 12 Pro. But, I wanted the 1TB storage tier, so I bought late in the cycle to avoid the price increase. Now, knowing that for the 1TB 18 Pro, it would have cost me $300 more... I'm happy I did what I did. The only thing I feel I missed out on is the better battery. But I'm happy with the battery life I have. I'd do the same over again if given the option. Saving $300 was worth it.
 
Today bought a 17 pro max 1TB in cosmic orange at EUR 1.759. 18 pro max 1tb here is 2.379 EUR. The price difference here in the Netherlands is ludicrous and definitely not worth the upgrades. At todays rate, that is also 2.760 USD including 21% tax.

Which somehow in the USA the regular pro gets it while the 18 pro max is still stuck with Qualcomm.

The main camera is now f/1.48, which is ~50% bigger than the old f/1.78. IOW, it literally can collect 50% more light now.

Yeah, this is pretty irritating. It's in third party apps but I hate switching back and forth.

I don't know the reasons for this choice, but it should be noted that Apple has a modem contract with Qualcomm until March 2027. The contract was negotiated years ago, when Apple failed to produce a good enough working 5G modem.
 
No offense intented but MR please up the quality, this feels like it's AI generated or just random copy paste of marketing material.

Doubling Neural engine does not mean at all that you have double 'AI power'. The heavy party is done with PCC and if not main part is done by GPU / RAM that are way more relevant than NPU.

This feels more like S update from the past (eg. iPhone 6 to iPhone 6S). Also lot of the updates for past few years have felt like incremental upgrades. We are still living in iPhone X shadow. iPhone Duo seems to be outside that shadow but will see.

Given that the Macbook Neo uses binned Ax SOC's, it's pretty much certain the next Neo will have 12GB RAM since the A19 Pro has 12GB. I thought they had already offered a mac with 12GB RAM, but after searching for it, turns out I was wrong.

Though there may be difference on paper, in real life, I think one will not notice anything extra (maybe except the camera). No reason to upgrade from 17 Pro/Pro Max. I am very happy with my 17 Pro Max and waiting to see what the 20th anniversary iPhone will offer.

Last christmas I got a 17 Pro Max, coming from a 13 Pro Max (what a great phone was!).

My 17 Pro Max is absolutely stunning and a worthy upgrade. I'll keep it until Apple launches a phone without notch/dynamic island/hole (under-display Face ID and front camera).

Same for my M5 iPad Pro, and M5 Pro MacBook Pro.

No more devices with holes in the middle of the screen.
