I dont think i have ever used the camera on the iPad for anything other than video calling.

Can anyone explain to me the use-case for having a good quality camera on the ipad in order to take pictures? I am sure there must be one, and people muct be using it for useful things i just can't think what they might be?

Because some people are obsessive about having a good camera on their tablet as well I suppose. I find it handy to have another camera around when I have the iPad and don't have my phone right with me, but that's just me. Besides, if you don't want to use it, it's pretty easy to ignore :)

I find it very handy in the field taking images in a work related enviroment. As popular as digital imaging is these days, others find MANY uses for a digital camera.

It may be YOU!

To shut up android tablet users. Jk. Lots of uses, duh

There do seem to be other uses, I guess that i personally don't use it because i have an iPhone as well.

+1. My workplace just purchased 50 of them because the camera is now a functional one for that meets their needs. For personal use at home maybe it isn't a necessity but for some the work environments it makes it a wanted item.

Skype, FaceTime, Document capturing, evidence capturing for insurance agents, Augmented Reality, barcode reading for inventory, QR Code reading.....

And to add, anyone that works in some sort of building trade that wants to take photos. General picture taking around the house.

Better to have it and not want it then want it and not have it.

To take pictures and record video obviously.

Yeah ok, so the obvious is... well.... Obvious!

But are you telling me you actually walk around carrying your iPad so you can take photos?

All things I use my iPhone for (which I find preferable as it is a more portable device that is generally with me more often).

But I accept not everyone is the same :)

I just never understood carrying round an iPad with the specific intent to do some of the above. But I can see if you have it with you anyway then there are a few more uses than I had considered (if you don't have an iPhone with you).

Photos: no, video: big yes

I can't see myself using the iPad to take pics, but as a video camera I think it's going to be awesome. Just this morning, I used it to film my son riding his bike down a wooded trail. Such a cool, humongous view-finder. I could see what it looked like in real-time, edit instantly in iMovie and email to the grand folks, all in about 5 mins.

I think the camea would be much more useful on the iPod Touch. I hope they use this camera in the next touch model. I won't be buying one, but that abysmal camera in iPad 2 and iPod touch G4 is ridiculous an I like even knowing they intend on improving things.

As for the iPads camera. I Don't use it use it much... Especially since I have a 4S.

The camera is there to take pictures with, i would and WILL take plenty of pictures with it. NEVER say that it looks stupid, because it doesn't. If you see a guy standing really far away, that thing will seem really small and it won't look stupid and you won't even know it's a tablet before you start walking til you see the guy close. The iPad 3rd gen has a good camera, a camera many will use but not in public because they're afraid of using the item just the way they want it because people say some things are stupid. I have people wh makes fun of me just because i'm who i am, i seriously couldn't care less about them or what people thinks.

Sorry if i got off-topic.. and btw English is not my native language :)

My use seems the same as yours. I ALWAYS have my iPhone with me and sometimes have my iPad. Of course, if I want to take pictures, I usually use my Canon 60D.
