Since 4S has shipped for some people, does this mean that 4S shipped with the GM seed build of iOS5? Or is there already a final build? If it's the GM seed, does this mean 4S users can upgrade directly from GM seed to a future 5.1?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A334 Safari/7534.48.3)

They should all ship with the gm

I suspect the version pre-installed on the iPhone 4S will be the final consumer build.

There never was a publicly released GM for the iPhone 4S. Its the iOS 5 final build. But its build number may differ from that on older iDevices. The version on the iPhone 4S can be upgraded directly to the next iOS version. The new version can be iOS 5.0.1 or iOS 5.1.

Whatever they put in the manufacturing line, I think there might be firmware number differences between carriers.
    Why so worried about this?

When the GM was released to developers it was also sent to the factories to be installed on devices to be shipped.

It is likely the shipping version has been updated at least once since then...

I would assume the first publicly available version.
