I have been trying to upgrade my Mac to the latest version of Office for some time and am unfortunately so confused. Most recently, I had (as far as I know) upgraded to Office 2016, which was labeled within Excel as version 16. Today I tried upgrading to 365, downloaded the installer, installed, etc., only to find that I'm still at the same version: 16. The interface also still looks like the old one, and some features I'm looking for (like Find & Select) are not there. There only appears to be one version of Excel on my computer.

How can I tell if I can using the most up to date version of Excel? What happened to 365?

Hm. I just ran the installer for Office 365 and everything worked fine. The Office apps say in their properties that they were last updated today.

Does anyone have Office 365 for Mac? Do you have a Find & Select function?

2019 and 2016 look very similar, only some minor design tweaks but very few things changed as far as controls or things. Nothing like 2011 to 2016 for sure.

If you have paid for an office 365 subscription then you will have access to 2019. If you really want to be sure you have the newest version, delete your current apps and download everything from the Mac App Store. You can log in with your office 365 creds and be all set.

thanks! I believe I am on the latest version after all. Looks like the very useful “tell me” feature is not on Mac, and other features are in different locations than on Windows
