I live in an apartment and have the Homepod placed on my TV stand (which faces the wall of my neighbor's apartment). I find that even playing music at 40%, it's LOUD, to the point where I get paranoid my neighbors could be hearing a lot of noise and might complain. Much to my surprise, 25% is loud enough to fill most of my apartment, hopefully without too much noise spillover.

Out of curiosity, what volume level do you normally set for music playback?

Home alone 60-80% depending on what I’m doing.

Others in the house probably 25-40%.

About 20-25% most of the time. 10-15% at night. You're right though. This thing is loud. 40% even during the day with no one around would be plenty loud for me.

The volume level depends radically on the room it is in. Our HomePod in the bedroom seldom goes above 30% because it sounds LOUD at those levels but the HomePod in the very large kitchen with a open floor plan that extends to a huge great room with cathedral ceilings... yeah that one needs 50%+ to even sound good. Size of the room is a huge variable.

For background music, 30% sounds about right in my living room. For getting really into it, 60-70%.

75% for some serious jammin'........but, it all depends on your music source.
Airplay is noticeably less volume over streaming from your iCloud music.

Even iCloud music varies depending on if it's a matched song or uploaded from your own collection.

Could always turn on sound check (at the expense of making the maximum volume lower, which is why I have it off despite wanting to use it).

I too am in an apartment and have it in my bedroom. I listen at 30 percent casually, 50-60 percent to rock out, 10-15 at night, 5 percent to fall asleep. Usually 15-20 for podcasts.

My biggest problem is SIRI is too damn loud! even at 5 percent she sounds like average speaking volume. Its too much and very jarring late at night.

When I'm home alone, anything up to full-on depending on what I'm listening to.
When the wife's home, around the 20% mark. She is not a fan of noise to say the least. Bloody wimmin :D
