Just returned from a Genius appointment for my iPhone which bricked itself (after 2.5 years) and discovered that my local store has done away with the Genius Bar in favor of making customers sit on little cubes surrounded by children scribbling on iPad's and parents telling them how cute the drawings are. I asked the Genius why Apple did away with the "bar" and she admitted Apple did not want the optics of a wall of customers having problems with their products. Often when I go to an Apple store they solicit me to open a "business account". Really? Seems that Apple is a little schizophrenic. Anyway, thank god for extended AppleCare.

One of many reasons why Ahrendts’ departure from Apple has NOT been oft lamented. Form at the cost of function is counterproductive in customer service.
