Roos are great and they make for great eating too.

Nice to have a national symbol that does double-duty. Unfortunately, the bald eagle isn't good eating, even if it wasn't endangered.

Maple syrup's good, on the other hand, though I wouldn't try eating maple leaves.

Er, yeah, they're like cows.

There are more roos here than cows and there are a hell of a lot of cows.

It still makes me laugh when the yanks get upset about us eating roos - they're not endangered, far from it, they're thriving to the point of overrunning some places so much they need to cull them every year.

I figure they are the australian equivalent of deer.

On the ticks, I got bit by one once as I was getting over chemo, the doctor gave me the treatment for Lyme just in case and then the test a month later when the antibodies would show up.

Also ticks only seem to bite under clothes so nudism is a way to avoid tick bites.

well ticks are really nasty if you're really unlucky - and might just as well be completely harmless(ish)... ... a good pic for removing this is

- if you feel and symptoms later you should really hurry to a doctor, but no real need to hurry before that unless you want to be 100% certain:)

I really have nothing to add, other than to say you definitely should go see a doctor. Have yourself checked out. A tick bite isn't usually very serious and is only rarely, rarely fatal, but if it gets bad enough you'll wish it were :(

Bloody oath but the dingo was drunk so he dropped his baby in a billabong a couple of kays back on the track. Now he just thinks he's carrying a baby - the flamin' Galah.

'Scuse me, I gotta go practice playing my didgeridoo and cook me up some tucker. Maybe a wallaby or two...

Actually I prefer kangaroo. It's got a much better taste and when you cook it rare and serve it with some spicy plum sauce it's bloody gorgeous.

Oh crap the colt from old regret just got away! Gotta do the harold holt now, see ya.

Oh I feel so dirty and boy is that hard to keep up.

hehehe

Classic. You'd make Steve proud. :p

Try having one on your penis.

Haha, I've had worse.

Well I went to the doctor and he just gave me 2 pills that I took right away.

The only thing I noticed was muscle spazms but that might just be in my head, also I had a little rash on my arm that went away.

Going to a doctor was definitely a smart move. It's probably going to be fine, but do continue to keep an eye on it. Ticks are really nasty little buggers.

While I know that's true, i thought you were being sarcastic in your earlier post...

Do roos taste like cow? I think I'd like to try it. I'm trying to think of the strangest animal I've ever eaten and I think it would either by alligator or rattle snake. Kangaroo would be right up there though. I did have a drink one time that included tobacco and gun powder...

Back on topic: Its pretty easy to get 40 ticks on you. When I was younger we would play in the woods and often times get several ticks at once. I'm not sure if they really live in "nests" but it sure seems as if its easy to walk through a nest and all of a sudden your leg is covered. It also seems as if they like to go for your creases (knees, arm pits, crotch area) or any warm and sweaty spot. Nasty boogers.

Not the right way to do it, but we always just yanked 'em out. Fortunately noone I know ever had any ill effects from it.

Roo is similar to cow, but a little more 'gamey' - i think it's better and a good roo steak can give the best filet of cow a run for it's money.
<you made me hungry>

I hope its been tenderized by the road trains before:D

To the OP of the thread, I have been bitten by a few ticks before, the most common are the big fat grey ones, I normally just yank em out and hope for the best.(Apply some Iodine cream)

The ones to watch out for are the little red buggers, which give you tick bite fever, which gives you a cracking head-ache among other things, and sometime reoccurs.

I would recommend getting it checked out by a doc, as I have seen some animals with massive open infected wounds, due to tick bites.
