The original iPhone had the most sensational keynote by far. It's still thrilling to watch today. Thanks, Steve.

The iPhone 4 is my favourite. Like a Leica.

I don't count the original as being the first kinda has an unfair advantage the others don't have.

So from iPhone 3G to iPhone 6, the iPhone 4 was the biggest and probably most important release.

In terms of impact on the world... The original. Greatest released in terms of engineering and functionality? iPhone 5 by far

I am so glad iPhone 4 is winning, It was fantastic. Radically different design, antennagate, white iPhone saga and the last iPhone Steve actually launched. I also think the bumpers were a really cool accessory.

I think the hand of Steve is why the 4/4S is so well regarded. It really was art and without rivals when it launched. The design was exquisite and instantly redefined what smartphone should look and feel like.

The original!
My iPhone 4 is still my favorite. It's now 4.5 yrs old and still getting about 50% battery life on it's original battery.
My carrier doesn't like users with old phones on prepaid plans, so I'm about to unlock it and get a much better plan from another carrier using the same network.

When my iPhone 4 finally gives up, I plan to buy an unlocked iPhone ? from Apple and use it on prepaid, so I don't have to pay for service I don't use. BTW I'm in CDA.

iPhone 6 Plus... the bigger screen is just what I needed
I've spent some time handling both the iPhone 6 and 6+ in the Apple store.
Although I like the 6+, the 6 fits my pockets and (large) hand much better.
Anyway my still running great iPhone 4 on iOS 7 delays my iPhone update for now !
The Otter case has saved it from a number of falls.

It was with the iPhone 5 that I started getting a wandering eye for competitors. It just lacked the finess, artistry and experience I had with the 4S.

The 5S and 6, both of which I owned for a short period, were blah and meh. They just didn't have the "magical" vibe like the 4/4S.

No love for the 5S?

That was my favorite. I still love that phone (my wife has mine now). And it was a big release for me because it was the only time I went two years without upgrading (I've bought every release except the 5).

Well, the first generations for sure. Maybe as they were totally new and have been presented by Steve these days. The successors definitely are great products too. But that's my view on this.

The iPhone 4 was the first phone to truly wow me. It had build quality second to none, a great camera, a glorious o/s and it did everything I wanted. When I got the i5 I was hoping for more of the same but better. It was an ok phone but didn't wow me like the i4 did. The build quality wasn't as good (mine had loose volume and mute buttons) and when iOS7 was released it was full of bugs & raped my battery life. That was the start of my iPhone woes really.

Fast forward to the 6+ and it's by far the most unhappy I've been with any phone, ever. It reloads everything, crashes and browsing is a joke on data-heavy sites. iOS8 is a buggy mess, WiFi range is poor and when you add the out-dated chunky bezels & protruding camera etc it's just a bad phone. I can't wait to get rid of it and really, can Apple ever again release a smartphone with the wow factor of the iPhone 4 and iOS5/6? I'm not prepared to spend thousands of dollars and years of frustrating ownership waiting for them to finally release another awesome phone.

I found nothing endearing about the iPhone 6 I had. Felt like a step backwards from the iphone 5S in many ways and didn't have any of the wow factor of the iPhone 4 and 4S. iOS 8 was a complete mess and a buggy nightmare.

Nothing about it seemed like Apple in my opinion. The design is pretty bad actually. Tim Cook needs to get Jon back on a short leash.

It's one of those perceptions that will differ from person to person. In my opinion the iPhone 6 was a significant leap forward in terms of design and engineering when I compare it to my old iPhone 5. A more compact framework with less reliance on CNC'd aluminium we had come to be familiar with. This is subjective I know, but being a product designer myself I enjoy the finer details of design through to the final manufacture.

I have been very lucky across iOS 7 and 8 too. When I installed 7 on my iPhone 5 this place was full of horror stories with bugs and bricked devices. I had one or two at the very start with the worst being an issue with apps not returning to portrait mode. Pretty insignificant. iOS 8 has been fine so far for me too. Again the horror stories haven't made it to my device, touch wood and all that.

This is all subjective and very difficult apply to everybody's experiences. This is the type of thread that will cover every iPhone and there will be a set of people favouring each one.

iOS 8 is undoubtedly the worst by a long way for me.

Ever since I installed iOS 8, my iPad Air 2 has soft rebooted once a day. Safari web pages regularly reload due to an error.

I'm looking forward to iOS 9 being more stable than iOS 8, which shouldn’t be hard.

It's pretty obvious this thread is subjective, but notice the consensus of an overwhelming majority of people selecting the 4/4S. That's not only a consensus, it's also a clue, but in fairness two iPhones are missing from the list.

Apologies if I pointed out the obvious then, oops. The iPhone 4 is the most popular one in this thread for sure.

The best iPhone release for its time was the iPhone 4. The original iPhone keynote I was 14 years old and seeing the highlights on tv were cool but I didn't understand at the time how groundbreaking the product was. At the iPhone 4 keynote I was absolutely blown away with the ramifications of the future and when I saw that absolutely gorgeous display in person for the first time I was in shock and love and understood what this meant for technology.

Way to resurrect an outdated 2 year old thread.

That being said, iPhone 4 was the best product advancement ever, relative to the time it launched.

iPhone 4 IMO. It was the first iPhone that actually made me want to get an iPhone. That thing was hella cool, especially for the time. Great design, awesome camera, and video chatting that actually worked? Apple killed it in 2010. That's the Apple that I miss. The Apple that would release a phone that would turn the industry on its ear.
