What was the old maxed out 16” MBP price?

So it looks like the 16” M5 Max MacBook Pro with 18 core CPU, 40 core GPU 128GB of ram & 8TB SSD is now $9999.00 after the price raise. Does anyone remember what this spec cost before the price increase?

US: If you include the nano-texture display the price actually increases to $10,149, which is insane. You can buy a used car for less money.

Also, before the price increase yesterday, the MSRP on the 128GB 4TB model with the standard display was $5999. After yesterday's price increase, the MSRP is now $7999, so a $2000 or 35.6% increase. No wonder Apple's stock crashed.

Back when I was in college, Macs cost as much as used cars. Actually, depending on the model (IIfx with options), they could cost as much as a new car.

You could spec out a IIfx at a higher price than the maxed out Studio Ultra. Adjusted for inflation, a maxed IIsi would cost the same as todays Studio Ultra, or the maxed out IIfx would be about $35-40,000 in today’s money.

It's nicely done because, for each type of Mac, it shows the increase for both the base model and the maxed-out* model.

[*At least the computing components are maxed-out; the non-computing components (e.g., the display: glossy versus nano) may not be. ]

Thus you can see the USD price increase for the maxed-out 16-inch MBP under the section for that: It went from 7,199 to 9,999, an increase of 9,999/7,199 = 39%.
