I quit my job and started my own business.
Now I'm broke...
...but happy.
So, you are broke but happy. How can that be? Can you tell me more?
We bought a house. Does that count?
That's awesome. In which state/country you bought your house, if I may ask? I wanted to do this; but, I cannot commit to the place I am living now. I just feel I am moving out. Owning property may slow me down my decision on moving out.
England. Buying a house in another country would be fun and all that, but the commute into work would be hellish...
I've lost quite a bit of weight and I'm also about a week or so away from releasing a beta of my first shareware app.
Got my wife pregnant.

That's unusally tall. Oh, <snap>Polevaulted 13 feet. Now by the start of track season I should be at 14 feet.

As for me? Well, I made peace with my being in this universe, and then I ate a whole loaf of bread. It was a pretty big loaf.
In chronological order...
Got a job in the field that I was trying to get into, connected to the country I wanted to work with (Russia). Got a bigger apartment. Traveled to Russia on your tax dollars (again!). Got my wife pregnant (intentional--planned--extremely excited). Saved money and saved for retirement. Got back into an old hobby that I love (photography--put together a couple old albums; have been taking tons of pictures and am starting to actually like some of them!).
Those are the big things, I think. Man. This thread makes me feel much better than I did a few minutes ago. Thanks!

Got laid off , paid off the car , and cashed in on unemployment benefits for the first time in my life! All in the month of December.
After over a decade in the same workplace, I'm actually considering trying something new, with my wife's encouragement!
Last, but not least, my first fortune cookie after the lay off read:
"There is no security on this earth, there is only opportunity."
Overall is's been a banner year!
