Don't think mascots at UK universities play as much of a sporting role, if any at all, as in the US.

Here's ours:

His original head was badly damaged in the embalming process, but used to be displayed between his feet. This proved too much of a temptation for students at a nearby rival college of the university, who once used it to play football in the college quad. Below: students parading the stolen head.

The head is now stored in the college vaults. The body is always on display though.

My community colllege was the Bruins? I think it's like a bear or something.

I went to the College World Series in 2007, and the Anteaters were one of the teams there. Everybody loved that mascot. I tried to find a shirt with just the Anteater mascot on it (as opposed to the generic CWS shirt), but they were sold out just about everywhere.

Thank you!, Yeah, the anteater is cool! too bad they only exist in central and south america and not in california, :D:D:D:D:D:D:D

we were the tritons (ucsd).

First time around: a knight for one campus/branding and a hunting dog for the other campus/branding.

Second time around: a ram named "Eggy".

So, what where/are your mascots in college? And, what would be your ideal mascot? Right now, its a wildcat. The mascot costumes are[/URL] way cool, for a wildcat. (We have two of them) I wish it was something more unique, like a wolverine! There are too many wildcats/tigers/lions/cougars/jaguars/panthers/other cats. They are awesome, but there are too many of them! But ya, what was it? And, you can tell colors or name of school if you'd like.

A castrated tiger was my alma mater's mascot. :D

No, no, I'm kidding about the castration part. ;)

Personally, I'd have picked a vulture because they have few natural predators. :)

What about high school mascots?

There are so many colleges without a mascot, or they downplay it if they have one. Guys/gals, what about high school mascots?

That seems to be the more important one for the majority of the populace. Before the Griffin (which nobody can really adequately describe), my college had a cross beam section of a bridge, and before that an unnamed ship on the high seas as a mascot!?

But in high school, our mascot, a jolly Franciscan Monk, was an ever present entity that was at games, dances, rallies, and on high school attire and uniforms. Our mascot got to do routines with the cheerleaders and was a person most students knew personally.

Like the high school yearbook over the college yearbook, it's the high school memories and stories most of us remember as it usually corresponded with our first real trials and tribulations with the opposite sex, getting the freedom to drive, and for at least half, getting the right to vote and entering adulthood. Our mascot was with us through that entire awkward journey which was our 14th through 18th years in our adolescence.

My mascot can kick your mascot's ass since he has a gun :D

btw, college is University of Missouri-Rolla (I refuse to call it by its new name, Missouri University of Scientology or something like that :D) and it's the Miners. The mascot is named Joe Miner.

SIU Salukis!!!! Most people have no idea what a saluki is... It's an Egyptian hunting dog (Southern Illinois is called Little Egypt, I think because of the Cahokians).

The aptly named 'Grey Dawg':

An actual Saluki:

Salukis are just Greyhounds having a bad hair day :D

My school's mascot was a goat, but our team nickname was Engineers (WPI). I was so inspired by having a goat for a mascot (not) that I went there for grad school, too.

My high school mascot was a clipper ship.
