I would have to say the Max. Because of the all screen and size. And I haven’t even put my hands on it. But as far as the iPhones with the bezels, iPhone 5s

The 5/5s/SE design has held up beautifully but the 4 was also a real stunner to look at and hold in your hands. Certainly between the two. The X is also an impressive design, were it not for its size and the camera bump.

Design is more than looks, design includes durability and consideration for real-life use beyond the jewelry-like perfection you see only upon first unboxing. As soon as Apple starts designing phones for more than fashion/appearance, I'll be willing to place my vote. Until then, all iPhones have a design flaw of being too fragile, especially since they're the one thing we carry around even more than the thoughts in our head. When is the last time you've seen glass toothbrushes or truck tires for sale :)

So far? I’m pretty sure it’s the Xs Max. I really love the X design. It’s just too small. But of course I need to wait until Friday to know for sure.

My previous favorite was the 4. None of the longer variations were as solid or gorgeous as the original 4. It’s the Leica M3 of phones.

5/5S/SE for me though the 7/7+ was great too.

One reason I’m sticking with my SE over the XR is I don’t like the all glass back. I’m more likely to buy another 7 over the new models for the all aluminum back.

I adored my black iPhone 4. I regret trading it in for a 5s. My husband insisted I would appreciate the camera upgrade but I didn’t.

However, I looked at his old iPhone 4 not long ago and the proportions look strange to me now.

For me now, it’s hard to beat my Product Red IPhone 8 Plus. It’s a beauty. I just wish it had a better modem and the ability to record in stereo audio. If it had that, I’d not be even looking twice at the 2018 iPhones.

Having read the posts above, I’d have to agree with the majority: iPhone 4.

Thinking back to my first experience with it, I haven’t had that feeling again (as beautiful and premium as the larger screens and X have been).

An amazing design brought to life with THAT screen. Game changer.

Then again memory is selective, history is partial, and youth is a golden age.

But I still say, iPhone 4.
