I'm sure not everyone has an apple store nearby to swap out an "in warranty" phone.

So i'm curious.

Do they send you a new one, and you send yours back when the new arrives?

Do you send yours in, then they ship you a new one? (if yes how many weeks does this take, or days?)

I go the express replacement route. pay $29. get the phone off contract price placed as a hold on your credit/debit card, they ship you a refurb. usually takes 2 days, then you send yours back.

Agreed, I do this everytime now. I will do anything in my power to avoid the Apple store as most employees are clueless and the store is extremely crowded.

Ive been able to get the 29$ fee waived the 3 times Ive done this.

Do you still have to pay the $79 if you mailed it in?

what do you mean "get the phone off contract price, placed as on hold...."

You can only opt for an express replacement within the first year of owning your phone unless you purchase Applecare. If you're replacing your phone due to accidental damage they will charge $79 for an express replacment, but that's only if you purchased Applecare. Without Applecare an express replacement on a defective unit will be $29. With Applecare it will be free. And with all these options a hold for the full retail price will be placed on your credit card until the defective or damaged phone is returned.
