i thought the new watches are 1.0.1 out the box. Now my new watch still has 1.0. Should I upgrade the watch or keep it at 1.0 for rarity. Think original iPhones with iOS 1.0.

1.0.1 out of the box. If you're going to be using your watch then upgrade. If you're a hoarder with no actual interest in using your watch then do as you please "for rarity value".

Mine came with 1.0.1 (42mm SGS), my wife's and daughter's (38mm sport) both came with 1.0 - I picked mine up from an Apple Store and theirs were ordered from the online store

Rarity? Seriously? You're going to live with the watch stuck at 1.0, through all the future updates, so that you can make an extra $50 on eBay in EIGHT YEARS? And that assumes you don't even wear it, because for it to be worth anything substantial in 8 years, it has to be MINT.

And what is your question exactly? Thread title asks one thing. Post asks another.

I am afraid you need to pick something else as an investment as an non-updated Apple Watch will produce a very low yield. You watch must have been made a while ago as most are coming already updated.

Speaking of which, when first setting up my apple watch I saw a circular image (i think, the salesperson walked through it quickly and didn't give me a chance to see it much) that I've seen posted by others in various posts. It looks kind of like the engraving on the back of the apple watch. How does one get that image?

That's just the setup screen. It doesn't come back I'm afraid, as nice as it looks.

This image? It does look cool, shame you only see it the once.
