Safari:
-when you have grouped folders of links in the bookmarks bar, being able to open one of them in a new tab.

hold option when you click the group. its not in a new tab, but it is one instead of all of them. just press cmd+t before you do it and viola.

be able to set the desktop pictrure from a menu by control clicking a jpg, tiff or other image file

i always see myself doing this even though i know i can't

damn right! i'll take 2 of those.

also, i wish you could press 'Enter' to select the highlighted option from those menu boxes that pop up and give you a 'Yes / No' option. instead you have to move your hand onto the mouse and all that effort :(

File Type & Icon Associations!

It's laughable at times in Tiger. Here's an example:

If you have .RTF and .DOC files all set to open with Pages, then they will have the blank/generic file icon, despite opening with Pages. Ofcourse you can change the icon manually on each blank file but this isn't exactly a solution as you would need to do it everytime you create a new file.

What also gets me is that if you did happen to have WORD on your machine, and you still wanted .doc files to open with pages, the icon for those files would still be blank even though there's an icon right there on your machine especially for those types of files. The only way to get a word icon for word files is to have them opening all the time with Word or by changing each file manually as above.

This is the same with RTF files, textedit has an icon for RTF files, but because you want to edit them in Pages you have to put up with a blank icon because there isn't an icon for RTF files inside the Pages package.

I know Mac users tend to scoff at Windows users and vica versa. But, in this instance it's laughable that such a simple thing is made almost impossible to the average user.

Yes I do know about these problems. All solutions have some kinks to work out but overall Apple will make 10 times more money if they sell their OS to 10 times the people.

A good solution is for Apple to sell OS X to Dell and other PC manufactures and make it possible to run on computers built from scratch.

If Apple wants to get itself out their then it needs to be available on all hardware.

3rd party hardware is the way to go for OS X market share. Without 3rd party hardware support OS X market share will never reach its potential.
yeah but then what will be the point of buying an apple computer if you can just get the same OS on some cheap dell. Apple's operating system is what makes them so unique.

More options. For instance, side bar is space wasting. I open a lot finder windows and organise my files in that way. Same sidebars in those open windows just wasting space so let we chose what we want that give us a option to disable it.

What if they had a bar that you could choose to hide or show or even have on your desktop where you could drag and drop images into to change your background, multiple images would set a default timer for 15 minutes before changing the image - or you could manually set it... Wait... what about Automator, could I make something like that to do it? Let's see, if I do make it, I'll post it.

Yup, Save this as a Finder-Plugin, I've included a pic and a zip file of the plugin and the desktop shortcut application to do so. The timer isn't part of it, but it works.

Welcome Back

I think we will learn about some Leopard surprises this Winter and Spring that Apple is currently keeping confidential and will surpass the surprises Apple gave us with the unveiling of the iPhone.

I am looking forward to a new Finder.

Keep posting Leopard ideas in this thread--and it's not too late for Apple to add your ideas to Leopard. Be sure to post your great OS X ideas for Apple to see here.

I want Finder Window tiling - and I want it NOW.
One currently available shareware solution can accessed here. I'm not sure though if you were looking for something that was Vista-like but don't worry Apple will certainly come up with better things than Microsoft has come up with for Vista. If you want to you can see a video of some of Vista's most recent features here. It's laughable that over half of the things that Microsoft demonstrated were already things Apple that has developed for OS X in better and more user friendly forms too. Apple is obviously ahead in the OS market.

That hierarchical menu set-up without any apparent keystroke ability is kind of unwieldy. Plus it isn't free. Such a basic function... Doesn't Vista have magnetic windows (or was that on a YouTube Unix demo I saw them)? I can see that becoming annoying very quickly.

Just to add some fuel to this thread--I thought I might throw out an addition that I'd like to see in Safari.

How would you like a feature that remembers your window for window and tab for tab history so that you can see the history of individual windows and tabs for easier history browsing when you are looking for a web page you visited in the past?

Also how about Safari being able to reopen all of the windows that were open the last time Safari was closed while at the same time remembering the forward and back status of each page (along with not reloading the pages and remembering the last place scrolled to on the page)?

Making Safari able to unclose a window that was accidentally closed is also a good idea.

I really would benefit if Apple decided to add these features to Safari. I already get some of these features with 3rd party software but I'd like them to be part of Safari so that they work more smoothly and without as many bugs.

Wow, I forgot about this thread.

As I said earlier, I'm really disappointed that there's no function keys mapping. I've found a shareware 3rd party application that does it, but it'd be nice to further integrate it into the system.

Apple has taken a lot of 3rd party ideas and integrated them into OS X. I would be happy with much less 3rd party software personally. The only thing that I don't want is bloated software so I want Apple to continue to make concise choices to make everyone happy and to make everything work.

hide the background/resize to fullscreen

I can't stand having windows open when you can see other apps that are open or the desktop in the background. It doesn't help that I have ADD...I get distracted sooooooo easily. I always have tons of things open, too ("power user" or just disorganized?).

I do see the value of being able to have multiple windows open and accessible, e.g. for graphic designers using photoshop, illustrator, the web, etc. simultaneously. Also, I suppose it would be annoying to have a bunch of gray space filling up your screen on sumpthin' like one of dem Mac displays der (talk about real estate!).

However, they could at least give us the option to block out the background clutter or leave it as is. Perhaps they need to add a blue (purple, or whatever color) button at the top left that would maximize to full screen. No need to change things dramatically...just have the option available.

I've been using Macs since OSX came out (give or take) and that is one thing that I still can't get over. Is this too petty???   :apple:

I didn't like that when I first switched a few years ago but I've gotten used to it--for the most part at least. I do still like some windows maximized fully (like my Safari windows). If any of my Safari windows are off 1 pixel side to side I don't like it (especially when the scroll bar can't be accessed on the edge of the screen where the mouse stops). I often click into another Application when this happens. It is easy to accidentally drag a silver (brushed metal) edge--and it is annoying and time consuming to move it back. If Apple doesn't want to add the maximizing feature I think that I would be at least semi-satisfied with a window lock feature (an icon for this feature could be put by the red yellow and green sideways stoplights that are on most Mac OS X windows) that restricts a user from moving a locked window at all.
