The Windows GUI hasn't been consistent for years.

I know someone who counted at least 3 GUI looks on a standard install of XP -- so saying everyone has seen the consistent Windows interface isn't exactly accurate.

I thought it was a lot better in Tiger. Full screen finally has a keyboard shortcut and it has a built-in slide show option. There are other cool additions too.

There are certain things though that got totally messed up. The way it handles default zoom size is insane. :( I think she might have been referring to that stuff. It did also get some nice enhancements. I would like to keep the enhancements and drop some of the other stuff. But I'd also like to see that long before Leopard.

I would hmmm...a lot of little things I am not holding my breath for. More sophisticated burning options for MS CDRs and CDRWs from the Finder (w/o using Disk Utility).

This is far out, but how sweet would it be if OS X used OCR tech to automatically do OCR of graphical documents, add the information to the metadata, and incorporate the results in Spotlight? :D

And I have mixed feelings about it, but I think I would like to see a Windows compatibility layer. Just don't make it virus-compatible!

What sort of enhancements do you reckon Apple can do to the Dock? As far as I know, the Dock did undergo some minor improvements in Tiger.

I played around with some 3rd party Dock enhancement programs but I found the Apple default to be the most pleasing and easy to use.

I want Apple to get rid of the "you have lost internet connection" dialog whenever you unplug your ethernet, or your wi-fi goes dead, or your modem hangs up. Only hassle me when I have real networking problems.

not to change the subject but I have a actually never seen this. I would like to have this feature as every once in awhile I lose my home wifi connection. I continue on my way not realizing it disconnected getting frustrated that the internet is not working until I clue in. Now this only happens once in awhile (probably why I often don't clue in right a way) but I would like to know when I lose my connection.

So anyone know how to turn this on or alternatively in After G's case to turn it off?

One thing I really want them to give attention to and improve is the Dock. It has barely been touched since Puma.
I whole heartedly agree there, add more options and things you can do with the dock
I think the dock is what really makes OS X, OS X. Without the dock, I'd've (lol sorry had to do that) had to stay with windoze. The dock really made me want a mac. The ease of using your most used apps and putting them in the dock, not the stupid quick launch thing. And for it to magnify just blew me away. I was like, how can a GUI incorporate those kind of things without loss of speed by the CPU or GPU, it was just unreal. Yeah, the dock needs some improvements. DIVIDERS, BE ABLE TO ADD DIVIDERS, NOT ICON DIVIDERS, BUT REAL DIVIDERS

Sure the Dock has been improved since Puma, I could never live without exposé, and Dashboard is nice!

But I know what you mean, and I don't think they will add anything, as it is beautifully simple and does what it should nicely. (Remember, Apple seems to really want to make everything simple). Ever used Dragthing? I don't want that complexity of preferences anywhere in OS X... please.)

llama :D

It would be neat if apps that only ever really have one window (like iSync, iCal, iTunes, etc) could minimize not into a separate position on the dock, but into the position of their launch icon.

Add more docks - be able to add more docks to the left and right of the screen. Sometimes I would like another one to put different things. 1 for apps, 1 for docs I'm working on/stuff I'm working on

Those are just my idea's.

That would be a great idea. It would be awsome just to have some spot where you can quickly and easyly identify what you want to open.

Yeah and then when a user puts their mouse over that application, it shows what windows are open in tiny icons like it would if you just minimized it, kind of like, what's their names idea with the CMD+tab thing, but only for the dock.

EDIT: Or hold down a key so that it shows what windows are open, or if you hover your mouse over it for a certain amount of time.

I think additions to safari are needed. It runs great, but slow sometimes on specific websites. On a computer with 1.5GB ram!!

Well, another update has gone by without the implementation of draggable tabs in Safari. I'd love to see that...

yes, that is sooooo annoying... i know the feature isn't there, but i always see myself trying to drag tabs, regardless...

i want tabs i finder like the ones on safari
Good idea.

As for the dock, it's a bit too simple and can be easily overrun with icons. A more flexible dock would be a welcome change, but I agree that it should not become bloated with features.

I wouldn't mind a native OSX customizable dock. Transparency, background/theme support, custom animations, all of these things are present in Windows docks, and I'm sure OSX users hate having to use extra programs just to have a transparent dock.

Also, how about a native "Parent Folder" button in the Finder toolbar? And perhaps a more simplified Terminal. Terminal is like the command prompt in Windows. I'd love to see a more Windows-like "Run" function in OSX. Run is my friend, and I will surely miss him when I get my iMac.

Well, although I agree that the dock ought to have native customization, I actually like using extra programs just to have a transparent dock. I enjoy my haxies! :D

Draggable tabs would be a brilliant idea. I'd like to have dock hiding turned on but only after a few seconds, not right away.

• being able to change the background picture at certain times not just intervalls and be able to specify as many pictures/times as I want like the options for smart lists (for a night/day rhythm for example)
• being able to isync entire home directories between computers over Bonjour
• allow "easy networking" between two computers. In plain English, a networking application with an OS X GUI that allows drag-and-drop file networking between two machines connected by a single ethernet reversable cable, a firewire cable, bluetooth, etc. But let's not enhance Network Utility. Let's make a simplified app for this, which would enable all the necessary sharing preferences and the IPs...so simple that all you have to do is connect the cable, open the application and everything is ready for network transfers.
• better speech recognition
• automatic undo delete from trash that puts the files back where they were
• better faxing
• Dictionary/Thesaurus in Spanish, French, German, etc.
• integration of Backup into the OS
• buy Skype and integrate it into iChat

I'd like to learn more about it, but from what I've heard, Resolution Independant display would be a nice feature.

resolution idependent display is almost a "must have" for me.

ability to change window size at any edge of the window, not just the corner.

please not more customizable options for the dock, the background, the windows and what not. please keep the gui simple and standardized!!
